Vince Young once carried the weight of Texas football recruiting on his shoulders.
Now, the Longhorns legend is experiencing the process from an entirely different position ... the passenger seat.
Young’s son, Jordan “Jayman” Young, is a 2028 prospect entering his junior season at Houston’s Kinkaid School.
The younger Young has primarily contributed at wide receiver and kick returner, but he’s also working toward a larger opportunity at quarterback, the same position his father transformed into appointment television more than two decades ago.
That’s one enormous shadow.
Vince Young was the nation’s No. 1 recruit in the 2002 class and remains the only dual-threat quarterback to earn a perfect composite recruiting rating.
His recruitment became a Houston spectacle before social media turned high school prospects into daily content machines.
Young eventually chose Texas over Florida State, LSU, Arkansas and Kansas State.
He became the centerpiece of a loaded Mack Brown recruiting class that also featured Rodrique Wright, Justin Blalock, Brian Robison, Kasey Studdard, Lyle Sendlein, David Thomas, Selvin Young and Aaron Ross.
Three years later, Young delivered one of the most iconic performances in college football history, leading Texas past USC for the 2005 national championship.
Jordan’s journey is far quieter ... for now.
He hasn’t received an official scholarship offer, but his athleticism has already created some buzz.
A 100-yard kickoff return last season spread across social media and immediately reminded viewers of the open-field electricity his father once brought to the Longhorns.
Jordan, however, wants to be viewed as more than a return specialist or famous football son. He wants an opportunity at quarterback.
Vince has shared clips of Jordan’s progress while taking him to camps throughout the summer, including events the younger Young personally requested to attend.
Rather than calling in favors or applying pressure behind the scenes, the former Texas star says he’s trying to handle the process like any other parent.
That means registering for camps, making sure Jordan arrives prepared and helping him understand that coaches evaluate more than arm strength, speed or recruiting pedigree.
Character matters. Communication matters. Professionalism matters.
Jordan may never face the recruiting frenzy that surrounded Vince Young at Houston Madison, but that could work in his favor.
He has time to develop without being buried beneath impossible expectations.
With more varsity snaps coming at Kinkaid, the 2026 season could become his recruiting launchpad.
