With four running backs set to leave the program in the offseason, Texas will almost certainly be in the market for a new ball carrier.
The Longhorns still have plenty of talent at the position, highlighted by Michael Terry and incoming freshman Derrek Cooper, but you need quality depth at RB, especially in the SEC.
Here are three names head coach Steve Sarkisian and RBs coach Jabbar Juluke should have their eye on come Jan. 2.
Jadan Baugh has been a name floated around in transfer rumors since the firing of Billy Napier, and those only picked up steam when Texas poached Juluke from Florida.
Baugh was one of the lone bright spots on an abysmal Gators team, rushing for just under 1200 yards and picking up 10 total touchdowns on the way. Baugh also caught 33 passes out of the backfield for a total of 210 yards.
There have been numerous conflicting reports about Baugh's plans, but one thing is certain: he will cost a pretty penny.
All signs point to the Longhorns having a large budget for the RB room, and there are not a lot of better options on the market than the 6-foot, 231-pound monster that is Jadan Baugh.
If you haven't familiarized yourself with the name Cam Cook, you will soon enough because he will be a hot commodity on transfer market.
The Doak Walker Award finalist led the FBS in rushing yards with 1659, while also scoring 16 touchdowns.
Many teams will be trying to add Cook to their squad, but the Longhorns may have an advantage over the rest. Cook went to High School at Stony Point in Round Rock, just outside of Austin. A transfer to Texas would be a homecoming for Cook, and who doesn't want that?
Some may question the validity of his stats given the competition in Conference USA, but rushing for nearly 1700 yards is impressive no matter the circumstances.
With Hollywood Smothers, you're getting a talent that's almost just as good as his name.
The sophomore from Charlotte, North Carolina, finished with 939 rushing yards on the season, and did so with minimal carries compared to Baugh and Cook.
Along with testing the Transfer Portal waters, Smothers also entered his name into the NFL Draft, signaling that he may not be available to college programs after all.
Whatever his decision may be, Smothers' electric running style is too good to pass up on, and at the very minimum, the Longhorns should throw their name (and money) into the ring in an attempt to sway him.
