DeMarvion Overshown fathered a baby in college, which is why he had such a passionate reaction to a viral video of coaches taking their players away from building a family while in college.

DeMarvion Overshown was a fan favorite on the Texas Longhorns for many reasons.

He was an electrying linebacker who flew around the field making plays, often in his signature swagger of numerous arm bands.

Overshown also, and more importantly, was a father when he competed in college.

He and his now-fiance welcomed DeMarvion Jr. while in Austin in 2022, a year before "D-Mo" got drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

While it may have been difficult at times, Overshown made sure to balance his new fatherhood responsibilities and football duties, knowing his motivation would eventually help set his family up for success.

This week, Overshown felt urged to respond to a controversial video of a college coach belittling these realities for college athletes. It came during the Trinidad Chambliss court hearings, where the Ole Miss quarterback is fighting for more eligibility.

During the proceedings, current Ole Miss staffer and former New York Giants head coach Joe Judge was called to the stand and spoke about how fatherhood impacts college football players.

Judge said that he would have to explain to players and their significant others that if a players' baby were to be born during the season, the new father would need to remain "detached" because "that father has to play good football."

"It's a day-by-day production business. He has to be ready to perform. And why I say that is you need to let him sleep," Judge said. "You have to explain to the mother, like, 'Hey listen, he ain't waking up for midnight feedings. ... In the season, he's gotta have a different priority.'"

Overshown ushered his response as advice to other students athletes.

"Don’t listen to this young men," Overshown said on his social media. "Be there for the mother of your child and let the rest take care of itself.

"Those midnight feedings turns into financial freedom because nothing will inspire you more than being a great father."

The four-year Cowboy knows first hand how his experiences resulted in him finding a motivation to pursue football at the highest level, a true inspiration for all college athletes fighting similar battles.

Since DeMarvion Jr. has been born, Overshown and his fiance have had their second son, Texas Lee Overshown, in June of last year before the 2025 NFL season began.

Entering the offseason in 2026, Overshown is looking to receive better luck staying healthy in order to truly breakout as a building block on the Dallas defense.

The former third-round draft pick has shown explosive flashes of quality production, but has suffered two catastrophic knee injuries that have limited his time on the field.

Overshown missed the entirety of his 2023 rookie season after getting hurt in preseason, and played in just six games this year with the Cowboys after rehabbing another torn ACL.

He remains a fan favorite for his electrifying play, his cowboy-hat wearing swagger and infectious personality.

Fans have also gravitated to this glimpse of him as a dedicated family man who seeks to inspire others through the power of fatherhood.
