Texas women's basketball announced the signing of Jayda Clark, a former professional player in Australia.
It's becoming more common than ever to see college teams announce the signing of a player who has played professionally in the past. While the recent football examples are fround upon, the phenomenon is fairly common in basketball.
And the Texas Longhorns' women's team just added yet another player with international experience.
Texas coach Vic Schaefer announced the signing of Australian guard Jayda Clark, who has played professionally in the WNBL.
"Longhorn Nation, help us welcome Jayda Clark to our Women's Basketball Longhorn Family," Schaefer said, via the school's athletics website. "We are thrilled to add such a great young lady and her family as well as a tremendous player to our program.
"Jayda will bring experience and the ability to score the basketball at all three levels. She is a veteran player with size and strength at the guard position being able to play multiple positions."
Clark, a native of Perth, Australia, has spent the past two seasons with the Warwick Senators and helped the team to a championship as the league's Youth Player of the Year and the team's MVP.
On the global circuit, Clark has experience with the Australian national team by competing in several FIBA World Cups and continental championships at the U16, U17 and U19 levels.
The newest Longhorn capped her WNBL career with one of her finest performances. Clark dropped 36 points, connecting on eight 3-pointers in the process, in her last game.
"I'm super excited to be joining Texas," Clark said. "They're a very successful program with an elite coaching staff and elite players. I'm looking forward to learning and getting better everyday."
Clark joins a program that already has international talent. The Longhorns' roster includes foreign-born players Grace Penter (Dublin, Ireland), Jada Bediako (Brampton, Ontario), Lovisa Asbrink Hose (Stockholm, Sweden) and Isi Etute (Dudelange, Luxemborg).
In addition to Texas returning All-American forward Madison Booker, Schaefer has put together the third-best 2026 recruiting class, according to ESPN's final rankings.
The stacked freshman class is made up of Etute, Addison Bjorn, Brihanna Crittendon, Lizzy Spaight and Amalia Holguin.
