Will the left tackle be healthy enough to suit up in Texas' first game this weekend?
Texas Longhorns starting left tackle Trevor Goosby returned to practice this week after suffering a knee injury in weeks prior during fall camp.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian said Goosby, one of the "leaders" of the entire team, is back on track to assume his role protecting Arch Manning's blindside.
"Both Trevor and Laurence [Seymore III] practiced today, and I thought they both looked really good," Sarkisian said, also noting the left guard Seymore, who has been banged up.
"So, that's a real positive for us."
Goosby anchors an experienced offensive line for the Longhorns, allowing Manning to be comfortable conducting an offense that is loaded with weapons.
Goosby's health brings a newfound optimism that he will be ready to go for Week 1.
"Trevor's one of our leaders," Manning said. "Really good athlete, a good guy. Glad to have him back."
Widely considered one of the best offensive lineman prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft cycle, Goosby's availability for this weekend's season opener would be a major confidence boost.
If he plays at all against Texas State on Saturday, he'll likely have some type of snap restriction, according to Longhorns insider Anwar Richardson.
Sarkisian could test his depth in a real game setting if the Longhorns build a big lead over the Bobcats. Oregon State transfer Dylan Sikorski received praise from Sarkisian during his snaps at practice.
"Trevor, he's got great energy, man," senior center Connor Robertson said. "I think it makes it a little easier having a guy like that back on the field. He's a really smart guy. You don't have to worry about him assignment-wise or anything like that. He makes everyone else's job easier."
The 6-7, 325-pounder Goosby went down with what was diagnosed as a bone bruise on Aug. 17. It was a noncontact injury, and Texas was thankful there was no ligament damage.
Seymore, a 6-2, 320-pound Western Kentucky transfer, is also listed as a projected starter on the Horns' veteran offensive line.
