Texas Longhorns fans are likely familiar with offensive lineman Trevor Goosby, the sophomore tackle who has taken the reins as a starter from All-American Kelvin Banks Jr. he departed for the NFL Draft.
Now there is another Goosby on the Forty Acres ... but he's playing a different sport.
Austin Goosby, Trevor's younger brother, has committed to Texas for basketball, giving head coach Sean Miller his first five-star recruit since 2019 when he was at Arizona, according to ESPN.
The Melissa native Goosby, a 6-5 combo guard, chose the Longhorns over other prominent programs like Duke, Baylor, SMU, BYU and Miami.
Of course, it's nice to have familiarity with your older brother on campus, but Trevor says it was Miller and his staff that sealed the deal.
"The Texas staff was the main reason," Goosby told ESPN. "They were in constant contact. When Coach Miller got the job, he immediately reached out. His background is in winning and he has already turned the program around. He is personable and easy to talk with. On the court, he is a great teacher. We have developed a bond. I want to help Texas win a national championship and to reach my goal of making it to the next level."
With Trevor now a key contributor on the field, Austin has gotten awfully familiar with the town that bears his name.
"I go to all the home games," Goosby said. "I am very familiar and comfortable on campus. The basketball fans show out. The new Moody Center facility is great, and the KD [Kevin Durant Basketball] Center is special."
Goosby is ranked as the No. 19-recruit in the country on ESPN's Next 100 rankings. He is the No. 2-ranked shooting guard overall and the No. 1 player in the state of Texas.
Here is what Rivals scout Jamie Shaw said about Goosby's game from his observations on the EYBL circuit, in which he averaged 15.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game this past summer with Dallas-based Drive Nation.
"Austin Goosby brings a lot of tools to the table, with his projectable frame and intriguing length. The 6-foot-5 four-star’s best game was on Saturday [in May] when he finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. While he finished 3-13 from three on the weekend, he showed intriguing passing chops, moving the ball around when it was in his hands. He averaged 16.3 points and 5.0 assists through the weekend."
The signing adds to an already strong 2026 recruiting class for Miller in his first season in Austin. Texas has inked Bo Ogden (No. 42) and Joe Sterling (No. 93), who are also ranked nationally.
The Longhorns currently have the No. 17 recruiting class in the early-signing window.
