Here's what to know about the No. 13-ranked Red Raiders tripping to Corvallis in Week 2.

Texas Tech enters its matchup with Oregon State in Corvallis as heavy favorites once again.

Although the Red Raiders can expect to be point-spread favorites in almost every game this season, they are hoping to leave less doubt than what was the case last week in Lubbock.

Tech defeated Abilene Christian 33-10, but offensive inconsistency - especially in the red zone - resulted in a less convincing win than fans hoped for in Lubbock.

The Red Raiders can respond to that criticism Saturday night against the Beavers, who Tech throttled last season but will present a new challenge in 2026.

Here are some key storylines to know ahead of the 6:30 p.m. (CT) kickoff:

1 - Familiar Faces

There are a few returners who were a part of Texas Tech's 45-14 win in Lubbock over Oregon State last season. And some are returning home in this year's matchup and facing familiar faces.

Red Raiders tight end Jett Carpenter is a Medford, Ore. native. He slides behind Terrance Carter Jr. on the depth chart after spending last season at Nevada and several seasons at Eastern Washington.

Before his return to the Pacific Northwest, Carpenter was the subject of Texas Tech's jersey announcement post on social media as he was photographed in the all-white uniforms the Red Raiders will wear against the Beavers.

For Jojo Johnson, it's a matchup against his former team.

Johnson spent the last three seasons with Oregon State before transferring to Tech this offseason. He appeared in 19 games for the Beavers and recorded 18 career tackles.

2 - Pass-Heavy Quarterback Matchup

Both programs are getting accustomed to new leaders under center. Tech starter Will Hammond was efficient, but the offensive game plan eased him into the action, making for fewer opportunities for him to look downfield.

As soon as the Red Raiders began opening up the offense, Hammond was intercepted in the red zone. Look to see if Tech begins the game with aggression to get Hammond settled in earlier and allow the offense to get rhythm.

The Beavers were pass heavy in their season-opening loss to Houston. Mercer transfer Braden Atkinson threw the ball nearly 50 times in his Oregon State debut, and that type of workload could be in store again for the sophomore if his team gets behind early.

3 - Tech's Dominant Run Defense

Of the 194 yards allowed to the Wildcats last week, 74 yards came on the ground against a stout Tech defense. The D-line is among Texas Tech's biggest strengths on the roster, with All-American tackle AJ Holmes at the center of it.

The Red Raiders should have success against a Beavers offense that ran the ball poorly in Week 1. Oregon State had just 26 rushing yards from the committee of Kourdey Glass, AJ Newberry, and Tre Garrison. Atkinson getting sacked four times didn't help that total, either.

4 - Red Raiders Non-Conference Test

Not only is this Tech's first-ever trip to Corvallis, but it's also the program's first road non-conference game since 2024.

The Red Raiders haven't won a true non-conference road game since defeating Houston in 2017.

This is among the only negative trends on the Red Raiders' resume under head coach Joey McGuire.

5 - Tune-Up to Week 3

Texas Tech gets Big 12 Conference play underway earlier than before with a Friday-night Week 3 affair lined up against Houston next week.

A long travel back home and a short week of preparation is worth noting, but the Red Raiders' spirits of beginning their conference title defense will be high facing the Cougars.

Those are amplified if they can take care of business against Oregon State.

Texas Tech and Houston were each ranked in the final AP top-25 poll last season, and the two remain in the rankings this week as Tech sits at No. 13 and the Cougars at No. 23.

Houston is playing at home against FCS Southern University on Saturday night.
