Texas Tech baseball is heating up in Lubbock, and this weekend brings a mix of momentum, history, and fresh style to Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
The Red Raiders welcome Penn State for a three-game series that marks the first meeting between the programs. It also continues Texas Tech’s massive 15-game homestand — a stretch that has already helped the Red Raiders rediscover their offensive rhythm early in the 2026 season.
And yes, there will be some flash too.
Saturday’s matchup will feature the debut of Texas Tech’s brand-new Mahomes “Gladiator Red” uniforms, a bold look inspired by former Red Raider and NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes.
But the real headline might be how well Tech has been playing lately.
After winning back-to-back series against UAlbany and CSU Bakersfield, the Red Raiders have taken seven of their last eight games and have dominated opponents at home. During that span, Texas Tech has outscored teams 88-37 while hitting a scorching .414 as a team.
Several hitters have been driving that offensive surge.
Logan Hughes has been nearly unstoppable, going 13-for-26 with three home runs, six doubles and 17 RBIs during the homestand. His .500 average and massive 1.683 OPS have made him one of the most dangerous bats in the lineup.
Freshman shortstop Linkin Garcia has been equally impressive.
Garcia is hitting .400 with three home runs and 20 RBIs early in the season and has recorded hits in eight consecutive games. His strong start earned him a spot on the Brooks Wallace Award watch list, which honors the nation’s best collegiate shortstop.
On the mound, the Red Raiders have been just as solid.
Friday starter Lukas Pirko enters the series after back-to-back strong outings, including a seven-inning run-rule complete game against Albany. Over his last two starts, Pirko has allowed just two runs in 12 innings while holding opposing hitters to a .190 average.
Right-hander Jonny Lowe will take the ball later in the series and has quietly become one of Texas Tech’s breakout arms. Lowe has thrown 6.2 scoreless innings this season with eight strikeouts and zero walks.
Two-way players Connor Shouse and Jesse Rusinek have also added versatility to the roster, contributing both at the plate and on the mound.
The series with Penn State also signals the beginning of a hectic stretch for the Red Raiders. Texas Tech will play 17 games over the final 26 days of March, including a midweek showdown with No. 25 UTSA before opening Big 12 play against Kansas.
For now, though, the focus is simple.
Protect home field, keep the bats hot, and put on a show in front of the Lubbock crowd.
