LUBBOCK, Texas - Christian Anderson scored the final 16 points in a first half that saw No. 15 Texas Tech build a lead as large as 38 en route to a 87-57 rout of Winthrop inside United Supermarkets Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The game improved the Red Raiders to 10-3 on the season ahead of their Big 12 conference opener against Oklahoma State in Lubbock on Jan. 3. That meeting with the Cowboys sets the table for a ranked matchup with Houston in Tech's first road conference game on Jan. 6.
With the win, Texas Tech extended its 46-game win streak in home non-conference games (23-0 under head coach Grant McCasland).
Anderson powered the blowout victory on Sunday with 29 points, six rebounds and five assists.
All-American big man JT Toppin pitched in with a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double. Jaylen Petty added 20 points and Donovan Atwell connected on four made three-pointers.
Winthrop (8-7) was led by 6-10 center Logan Duncomb with 11 points and nine rebounds. Kareem Rozier also scored 11 as the only other visiting player in double figures.
The Eagles were outscored 25-21 by Anderson alone in the first half as the sophomore point guard shot 7-10 with four three-pointers in the first 20 minutes. Winthrop entered the game as a top-60 offensive efficiency team with 90.3 points per game and a 37 percent team three-point percentage, but they were no match for the pace and shot-making of the Red Raiders.
Texas Tech nailed nine first-half three-pointers and finished the game 10. Winthrop shot just 4-for-25 from distance.
The dominant performance closes an out-of-conference slate in which Tech reminded the rest of the country that its Elite Eight berth from last season was not a fluke. The Red Raiders' most notable win came last Saturday in a one-point victory over No. 3 Duke at Madison Square Garden.
On Dec. 23, Anderson was named one of the USBWA Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week after scoring 23 second-half points (27 total) in the win over the Blue Devils.
"It was electric," Anderson said about the upset win last week. "We were so competitive and all we wanted to do was win. We had a level of fight to win the game."
That mentality returned home on Sunday for an emphatic close to non-conference play.
Tech is now 7-0 at home and each of its losses this season have come against ranked teams in No. 11 Illinois, No. 1 Purdue and No. 17 Arkansas.
The Red Raiders are the real deal under third-year coach McCasland, and they look to build on their strong start by defending home court against the Cowboys to kick off conference play in 2026.
