Texas Tech announced that three members of its softball program were injured following a jet ski accident at a lake nearby Lubbock.
LUBBOCK -- Three members of the Texas Tech softball program were injured after being involved in a jet ski accident at a lake nearby Lubbock this week.
The incident took place on Thursday, Aug. 27 at Lake Ransom Canyon.
According to local media reports, Ransom Canyon Police, Ransom Canyon Fire and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department responded to the scene and found three individuals injured following the accident.
A spokesperson with Texas Tech softball confirmed that these three victims were current members of the program.
"Texas Tech Athletics can confirm members of its softball program were involved in an accident Thursday afternoon at Lake Ransom Canyon outside of Lubbock as part of a team event," read the statement.
However, both these initial reports and statement from the program confirmed that none of the Red Raiders sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident.
"There were thankfully no critical injuries as a result of the accident. All injured student-athletes have been treated and are expected to make a full recovery."
Texas Tech head coach Gerry Glasco responded to the situation on social media and expressed gratitude for those that sent well wishes to those involved.
"Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers! Glad everyone is okay and recovering well!" wrote Glasco on X.
It is unclear who exactly these three individuals are at this time, with Texas Tech yet to say if that information will be made public.
Regardless of who this trio may be, it was a potentially disastrous scenario and the Red Raiders are assuredly relieved that the situation was no worse than it was.
The Red Raiders are still well into the offseason, but this latest group looking to continue the newfound tradition of success that has been ushered in under Glasco.
Texas Tech enters this year as the two-time reigning Big 12 Regular Season Champions and Women's College World Series National Runner-Up.
And the expectations for a return to Oklahoma City are very much present for the reloaded roster, even before any pitch has been thrown this season.
With classes back in session at Texas Tech and several new faces to welcome to the program, Glasco and company are already working to build them into the strongest unit they can be.
Thankfully, it appears that what could have been a devastating situation will not greatly affect the Red Raiders in their pursuit toward another fantastic season on the diamond.
