Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and TCU headline the 2026 Big 12 Men's Golf Match Play Tournament as 16 conference teams battle for the title in Salt Lake City.
The 2026 Big 12 Men's Golf Match Play Tournament tees off Monday, October 12, bringing 16 conference programs to Utah for three days of head-to-head competition where rankings won't guarantee anything.
Oklahoma State enters as the No. 1 seed, but Texas Tech, Arizona State, Kansas and TCU are among the programs capable of challenging the Cowboys for the championship at The Country Club of Salt Lake.
Unlike traditional college golf tournaments decided by cumulative stroke totals, this event emphasizes individual matchups, pressure putts and team strategy.
And with a championship at stake, every hole matters.
Oklahoma State Draws Top Seed
The Cowboys headline Pool A alongside Cincinnati, Arizona and UCF. Oklahoma State will enter as the favorite to advance, but the match-play format creates opportunities for unexpected results.
Second-seeded Texas Tech leads Pool B, where Colorado, Kansas State and Houston will attempt to derail the Red Raiders.
Arizona State earned the third seed and anchors Pool C with BYU, host Utah and Iowa State.
Perhaps the most intriguing group is Pool D, featuring fourth-seeded Kansas and fifth-seeded TCU alongside West Virginia and Baylor.
The Jayhawks and Horned Frogs could produce one of the tournament's most competitive early matchups.
Match Play Creates Different Challenges
Each team competition consists of five individual matches, with players earning one point for a victory and half a point for a tie.
The team winning the most individual points earns three points toward the pool standings. Teams splitting their match receive one point apiece.
There's no opportunity to erase a poor hole with a spectacular score later in the round. Players must concentrate on winning individual holes and maintaining momentum against their opponents.
It's a format that rewards resilience as much as precision.
After three rounds of pool competition, the four group winners advance to Tuesday afternoon's semifinals.
The championship match follows Wednesday morning.
Monday's opening round begins at 8 a.m. Mountain Time, with the afternoon session scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Tuesday features another morning round before semifinal competition begins at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday's final matches start at 8 a.m.
For the conference's top programs, the objective is straightforward: survive pool play, reach the semifinals and finish the fall competition with a championship.
And in match play, even the highest-ranked team can discover that being the favorite doesn't mean much once the first tee shot is struck.
