Texas Tech had another preseason award watch list nod after Cameron Dickey was named to the list for the Walter Camp Award.

LUBBOCK -- Texas Tech continued to pile on the preseason accolades, as one Red Raider earned another spot on an award watch list.

Junior running back Cameron Dickey was among 50 of college football standouts named to the Walter Camp Award watch list, which goes to the nation's most outstanding player.

Dickey shouldered the load for Texas Tech serving as its lone representative and was one of six selections from the Big 12.

The fellow conference mates joining Dickey were Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita, BYU running back LJ Martin, Oklahoma State running back Caleb Hawkins, Utah quarterback Devon Dampier and West Virginia running back Cam Cook.

One of only 11 running backs chosen from across the country, Dickey has garnered serious expectations after stepping in as the primary rusher for Texas Tech a season ago.

He became the ninth Red Raider in program history to break the 1,000-yard threshold before capping out at 1,124 and powered a ground game that seemingly will only get better this time around.

Dynamic talent J'Koby Williams returns alongside Dickey and the pair finally welcomes former USC running back Quinten Joyner to the rotation following an ACL injury that left him sidelined last season.

In an already notable preseason, Dickey was previously chosen to be an early candidate for the Maxwell Award, which also recognizes the country's top playmaker but is limited to offensive options.

He is also up for the award tied to his position, with Dickey aiming to bring home the trophy for the Doak Walker Award after finishing as a semifinalist in his previous outing.

The Red Raiders have never had one of their own celebrated with the title of Walter Camp Award winner, but the program got extremely close a year ago.

That was thanks to the efforts of sensational linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, who ranked as a finalist for the prestigious award but ultimately came up short of adding it to his extensive list of accolades.

It is no small feat to be the recipient of one of the highest honors the sport can bestow upon its stars, and Dickey will undoubtedly face the stiffest competition it has to offer in his journey to debut the award in Lubbock.

However, Dickey is being viewed in the same vain as the rest of these top contenders, according to those behind the list. And another performance like the one he had this past season could be enough to power him over the competition.
