ESPN Announces Return to Lubbock As Red Raiders Put Nation On Notice cover image

Texas Tech will host another massive Big 12 game on a national stage when it faces Houston on Jan. 24.

No. 15 Texas Tech comes alive late to stun No. 11 BYU in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas - Following Texas Tech's win over BYU on Saturday, ESPN has announced that its first College Game Day broadcast of the season will take place here in Lubbock at the United Supermarkets Arena when the Red Raiders host Houston on Jan. 24.

The news comes after No. 15 Texas Tech held BYU star AJ Dybantsa to just two points in the second half as JT Toppin and Christian Anderson pulled away for an 84-71 win over the No. 11-ranked Cougars.

Toppin completed his seventh consecutive double-double and Anderson's smooth stroke from the perimeter was on display with four three-pointers. Tech improved to 14-4 overall and 4-1 in Big 12 play while BYU dropped 16-2 and also 4-1 in conference.

The "USA" was jam packed from start to finish as Texas Tech honored the historic 1995-96 men's team during halftime. This year's football squad also brought out the 2025 Big 12 Championship trophy - won against BYU on the gridiron - to get the crowd amped up.

Football head coach Joey McGuire sat court side and got on the mic to fire up the student section before tip-off.

That energy was able to guide the Red Raiders on a 30-6 run over the final 10 minutes of the game.

Texas Tech will travel to Waco to play Baylor on Tuesday Jan. 20 before returning to host Houston in front of a national audience.

It will be College Game Day's first trip to Lubbock since 2018.

The Houston Cougars currently sit at 16-1 as the No. 7 team in the land. They play at home against Arizona State on Jan. 18 as the only Big 12 game of the day.

In his postgame remarks on Saturday, Tech head coach Grant McCasland couldn't help but chuckle at how competitive the Big 12 is each and every night.

It takes a home court atmosphere like the USA to result in wins like the Red Raiders had against BYU.

"Man, the Big 12, what a league man," McCasland said. "It's obviously a super talented BYU team who had us on the ropes there with about 12 minutes to go in the game...

"And man the energy in the United Supermarkets Arena is just, it's hard to describe to people until you experience it."
