Height wanted to come in and make a name for himself, but as 49ers training camp got underway, it wasn't smooth sailing.
San Francisco rookie defensive end and former Texas Tech star Romello Height is doing his best to do all the right things in the hope of landing on the 49ers' active roster in his rookie season.
And the third-round pick has had a rather notable start to life as he looks to claim a roster spot.
Per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports, who covers the 49ers, Height initially suffered an injury on the field that looked a little scary.
"Romello Height sustained an injury in practice and was carted off the field," Maiocco posted on X. "The medical staff appeared to be working on both his right leg and both arms. He was lifted onto the cart. Practice ended shortly thereafter."
When that tweet was sent out, naturally, fans were fearing the worst because "working on both arms and a leg" isn't exactly a good thing.
But thankfully, shortly after the post, Maiocco revealed that it was just muscle cramps for the rookie.
So the 49ers and Height got lucky, and it shows how quickly things can go south once camp begins; for Height, he was just starting to make a name for himself as well.
Veteran edge Nick Bosa had some glowing comments on the third-round pick when speaking on KNBR 680's "Murph & Markus".
"Romello, just rookie-wise, I've never seen a guy come in and get the scheme as quickly and seamlessly as he has," Bosa said. "Even when vets come in who haven't played in this scheme. He's gotten it even quicker than I did.
"Just the way he picked it up, it seems like second nature to him, and he's super explosive, he's got a bag of tricks in pass rush that you could tell he's been coached well. He's a little older for a rookie, so that might be part of it, but I think he's going to contribute pretty quick."
So that is some serious praise that Height has gotten, and now that he has avoided an injury scare, look for him to continue making waves at 49ers training camp as he looks to stake his claim on a roster spot in the coming weeks.
After his best-ever college season with the Red Raiders in 2025, when Height recorded 10.0 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss, it appears he has carried over that form into the NFL.
For Bosa to speak so highly of him is a big feather in his cap, and the fact that he's a rookie as well only bodes well for his career at this early stage.
