One key piece of Texas Tech's offseason is set to receive another year of eligibility and he made his opinion on the groundbreaking decision evidently clear.
LUBBOCK -- In the wake of an new NCAA rule change that gives athletes the chance to play for five years, many former players are vying for the chance to get their extra opportunity.
This includes several athletes from the recruiting class of 2022 that would have otherwise extinguished all of their eligibility based on the previous guidelines.
While the NCAA itself had not directly granted the bonus season on these cases of already finished athletes, a Colorado judge recently issued a temporary injunction that sought to cover the entirety of the class.
The landmark decision technically opens the floodgates for all of those seeking another chance to have the means to do so, which includes one transfer that is hoping to be bound for Texas Tech.
Jamichael Stillwell recently announced his commitment to Texas Tech following a stint at fellow Big 12 squad, UCF, but the star forward was awaiting an injunction of his own to secure the move to the Red Raiders.
Following the ruling, Stillwell is now one of these athletes seemingly set for a final run and he made those in Lubbock aware that he was paying attention to the news.
"A good day to be a RED RAIDER," wrote Stillwell on X alongside a burning heart and two exclamation mark emojis. He also used "#MrStandOnBusiness," which is assuredly a reference to himself.
Needless to say, Stillwell on in favor of the decision from the Colorado court and that could stretch far beyond his own newfound ability to play.
Two other members of the group given the green light for another go around have also been linked to Texas Tech, Darrion Williams and Donovan Atwell.
Williams, of course, spent a year away from the Red Raiders and joined up with NC State. However, the impactful forward has been spending an unusual amount of time in Lubbock and specifically with his former team this offseason.
Atwell has spent just one season as a Red Raider, but made a huge impact in the short span. He became the single-season 3-point record holder following an automatic shooting performance.
The pair had recently been reported to have filed a lawsuit in a North Carolina court related to a potential extra year, which was set to be heard on August 5.
Nothing has indicated that the lawsuit has been pulled, but much like all the other members of the class of 2022, it may no longer be fully necessary.
For Stillwell, he already seemed optimistic enough about what Texas Tech was building before the news broke and with the chance to team up with two more legendary Red Raiders, he is certainly not regretting his choice to make the switch.
The NCAA is already pursuing a way to get the final say, but for now the Red Raiders are in position to be the biggest benefactors of the bombshell ruling.
