Texas Tech got a huge boost in its reloading efforts after sensational transfer forward Jamichael Stillwell officially signed on with the Red Raiders.
LUBBOCK -- While he had previously announced his commitment to join up with Texas Tech, star transfer forward Jamichael Stillwell made the move official by signing with the Red Raiders.
The inked agreement follows the granting of an injunction to Stillwell for an additional year of play from a Georgia District Court. He also was presumed to be covered by the blanket injunction in Colorado, which provided eligibility to the entire class of 2022.
Stillwell was a force for the Knights, leading them back to the NCAA Tournament and led them in high-quality victories over Kansas and Texas Tech.
His skills netted him an average of nearly 12 points and eight rebounds during his final year in Orlando. Throughout his two-year career in the NCAA ranks, Stillwell has generated 25 double-doubles in 62 appearances on the court.
Now, he will suit up for the former conference rival and gives the Red Raiders a powerful boost ahead of the upcoming season that was highly sought after some key departures.
However, Stillwell was not the only notable name to make the trip to Lubbock, as former Texas Tech standout Darrion Williams squashed the rumors of a reunion by announcing his return his program.
While All-American forward JT Toppin was already set to return and surely played a role in Stillwell wanting to make the change, the latest wave of talent heading to the Hub City is only sweeting the deal.
After a slow burn to start the offseason and uncertainty creeping about the future of the program, head coach Grant McCasland continued to show why he has kept Texas Tech in the national spotlight since taking over in 2023.
Stillwell's decision emphasized the sway that McCasland and the Red Raiders still possess amongst the top names in the sport, even when the future is not the clearest from the outside looking in.
The triple-headed monster of Toppin, Williams and Stillwell moves Texas Tech from Big 12 hopeful to possibly the favorite to win the title. And the trio could make them serious threats in March, if and when they punch their ticket.
And the team may still have a few more pieces to add to the puzzle, as one-time Red Raider Donovan Atwell has been heavily linked to his former program throughout these eligibility hearings.
For the time being, no official return has been announced by Texas Tech or Atwell. Regardless of that situation, Stillwell and the Red Raiders are already in prime position to have another commanding campaign in just a few months.
