Ludvig Åberg is out of the 3M Open, but the former Texas Tech star remains 10th in FedExCup points after seven top-10 finishes and a huge major run this season.

Anyone scanning the 3M Open leaderboard for Ludvig Åberg can stop scrolling. The former Texas Tech golfer isn’t injured, slumping or scrambling to save his PGA Tour season.

He’s simply taking a well-earned break.

Åberg skipped this week’s 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities after completing a demanding stretch of golf that ended with a top-10 finish at The Open Championship.

Instead of chasing another paycheck in Minnesota, the 26-year-old Swede is stepping away before turning his attention to the FedExCup Playoffs.

Considering what he’s already accomplished in 2026, he can afford to hit the pause button.

Åberg hasn’t won on the PGA Tour this season, but calling his year disappointing would be ridiculous.

He enters the closing stretch ranked 10th in the FedExCup standings with 1,929 points, seven top-10 finishes and approximately $6.25 million in official earnings.

That’s not a player searching for answers. That’s a player who’s spent most of the season kicking on the door of another PGA Tour victory.

Åberg finished tied for third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, tied for fifth at The Players Championship and tied for fifth at the Valero Texas Open.

He then added a fourth-place finish at the RBC Heritage, a tie for eighth at the Truist Championship and another fourth-place result at the PGA Championship.

The only thing missing is a trophy.

The former Red Raider was especially impressive on golf’s largest stages.

Åberg made the cut in all four majors, finishing tied for 21st at the Masters, tied for fourth at the PGA Championship, tied for 17th at the U.S. Open and tied for ninth at The Open Championship.

He finished a combined 10-under across the four majors and gave himself legitimate chances to contend for multiple titles.

That consistency matters.

Golf fans have become accustomed to Åberg looking like a future superstar, but his 2026 major results suggest he’s no longer waiting on the future. He’s already one of the most reliable big-event players on the PGA Tour.

Åberg’s absence from the 3M Open appears to be entirely schedule-related.

After his strong showing at Royal Birkdale, Åberg planned to take roughly three weeks away from tournament competition.

The break allows him to recover from a crowded summer schedule, spend time in Europe and prepare for the FedExCup Playoffs.

There’s been no reported injury or medical withdrawal connected to his decision.

Åberg is expected to return for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, scheduled for August 13-16.

That tournament begins the three-event playoff run and will give him another opportunity to turn an outstanding season into something even bigger.

Åberg’s 2026 season has been packed with elite finishes, major championship contention and remarkable consistency.

But elite players aren’t judged solely by top-10s.

They’re judged by wins.

Åberg has repeatedly placed himself in contention, including at The Players Championship, where a difficult final round prevented him from converting a Sunday lead.

That inability to close has become the lone blemish on an otherwise excellent campaign.

Skipping the 3M Open isn’t a retreat. It’s a calculated reset.

Åberg is already secure in the FedExCup Playoffs. Now he’s resting up for the tournaments that can define his season—and potentially erase the one uncomfortable question still hanging over him.

When will Ludvig Åberg finally finish the job?
