LUBBOCK, Texas - The two-week transfer portal period closes on Jan. 16, and once again, it was a stretch defined by the Texas Tech Red Raiders turning an oil-fueled commitment to NIL funding into one of the nation's best recruiting classes.
A similar story in 2025 set up Joey McGuire's squad for a dominant run through the Big 12 to claim the program's first conference championship in over half a century.
Though the first College Football Playoff berth ended in disappointment, the foundation was set for Texas Tech to compete with the best programs in the country - not just on the field but at the bank.
Depending on which recruiting outlet you frequent, the Red Raiders have built a top-five transfer portal class yet again in 2026, adding to the expectations of another stellar season this coming fall.
Who all put ink to paper? We dive into each signing below as the Red Raiders round out another strong start to the offseason.
Perhaps the most impactful player in the portal was the former Cincinnati quarterback who brings his talents to Lubbock after loads of speculation.
Sorsby joins his girlfriend Gretchen Sigman (TTU Volleyball) to form the campus' next power couple, and the QB's dual-threat talent suggests he has what it takes to take the reins from Behren Morton and lead another elite Red Raider offense.
For the reported $5 million price tag it took to land him, that's the only option for a return on investment.
Although Texas Tech was in pursuit of another high-profile wide receiver from Auburn, Simmons joins the Red Raiders with plenty of quality experience in the SEC, where he hauled in five touchdowns and over 900 yards in the last two seasons.
He joins a handful of receivers who replace starters Caleb Douglas and Reggie Virgil, who took their talents to the NFL Draft.
The Alabama State transfer is an HBCU All-American who posted over 1,500 yards last season alone. He was an All-Conference selection in FCS and makes the jump up in competition with two years of eligibility remaining.
Lee comes by way of Liberty University for his final season of collegiate eligibility after catching five touchdown passes for the Flames this past season.
Similarly, Johnson will exercise his final year of eligibility after three seasons at Pittsburgh. He totaled nearly 700 yards receiving and five touchdowns in 2025.
Carpenter, a Nevada transfer, was widely regarded as the top tight end in the portal. He now joins Red Raider returner Terence Carter Jr. to form a strong duo down the seam for Sorsby to target. Texas Tech also signed elite high school tight end prospect Moose Ludwig to fill in behind this two-headed monster of Carpenter and Carter.
With All-American linebacker Jacob Rodriguez onto the NFL, the void in the center of McGuire's stout front seven is filled by an All-Big 12 honoree. Romaine was second on the Kansas State Wildcats last season with 66 total tackles.
The Wake Forest transfer was rated as a four-star portal target by On3, and his signing re-loads a Tech defensive line that's lost three starters to the NFL Draft this offseason in David Bailey, Lee Hunter and Romello Height.
Ibirogba is the top DL signing and a top-10 overall transfer at 6-4, 290 pounds with one year of eligibility remaining.
Trick's signing is a treat for the Red Raiders who lose one of the nation's best sack-getters in Bailey. Last season for Maryland, Trick recorded 8.5 sacks and three forced fumbles, proving that he's an immediate plug-and-play on the outside of the D-line.
On the other edge, White comes to Lubbock with plenty of experience at San Diego State, where he's made 19.5 career sacks ahead of his final year of eligibility.
The 6-5, nearly 300-pound senior comes by way of Washington as the Red Raiders' only Power 4 addition from outside the Big 12. His massive frame looks to fill in the spot left by Hunter in Tech's impenetrable run defense.
Tech's only defensive back transfer signing this cycle comes from in-state UTSA. He'll join Red Raiders standout Brice Pollock with two years of eligibility left.
Other notable recruits include EDGE Amarie Fleming, LB Corey Platt Jr., DL Jojo Johnson, DL Julien Laventure, QB Kirk Francis and P Jacob Hand.
