Texas Tech outfielder Caden Ferraro wins Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after hitting .778 with a homer and five RBIs in a sweep of Penn State.

The Texas Tech baseball lineup has a new sparkplug, and his name is Caden Ferraro. After a scorching weekend at the plate, the Red Raiders outfielder was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, rewarding one of the most explosive performances in the conference this season.

Ferraro didn’t just produce - he dominated.

During Texas Tech’s three-game sweep of Penn State, Ferraro went an eye-popping 7-for-9 at the plate, ripping three doubles, a home run and five RBIs while helping the Red Raiders overwhelm the Nittany Lions.

Texas Tech crushed Penn State 50-17 across the series, continuing a stretch where the Red Raiders have won 10 of their last 11 games.

The Pearland, Texas native has quickly turned into one of the most dangerous hitters in the Big 12 baseball race. Through the early portion of the season, Ferraro leads the conference in batting average and on-base percentage, hitting .471 with a remarkable .608 OBP.

Ferraro set the tone in the series opener, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored during Texas Tech’s 15-7 victory. He followed that up with a perfect approach at the plate on Saturday, finishing 2-for-2 and reaching base in all four plate appearances during a 21-6 run-rule win.

By Sunday, Ferraro turned the weekend into a personal showcase.

The outfielder finished 3-for-3 with two walks, extending his streak to 11 consecutive plate appearances reaching base.

That run marked the longest such stretch in Big 12 play since Texas slugger Ivan Melendez reached base 13 straight times.

For a lineup that already had plenty of firepower, Ferraro’s arrival has given Texas Tech another nightmare matchup for opposing pitching staffs.

He also joins teammate Linkin Garcia, who earned Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors earlier this season, as Red Raiders making an immediate impact in Lubbock.

Now riding major momentum, Texas Tech will close out its 15-game homestand this week with a midweek series against No. 24 UTSA, followed by a conference showdown with Kansas.

If Ferraro keeps swinging the bat like this, the Red Raiders’ offense might just be getting started.
