Texas Tech added former Pitt State All-American safety Jordan Rogers, giving the Red Raiders another proven playmaker in the secondary.

Texas Tech football just added a late transfer portal piece with some serious ball-hawk energy.

Former Pitt State All-American safety Jordan Rogers has committed to the Red Raiders ahead of the 2026 season, giving Texas Tech another experienced defender for a secondary that already had big expectations.

This isn’t some random depth grab in late June.

Rogers is a veteran safety from Bellmead, Texas, and he’s coming off a monster 2025 season. He finished with 85 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, five interceptions, five pass breakups and four forced fumbles. That’s not just production. That’s a stat sheet that screams trouble.

Rogers spent five seasons at Pitt State and earned a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA. His path wasn’t exactly smooth. He redshirted in 2021, played only two games in 2022 after suffering a season-ending injury, then started climbing. By 2023, he was in the rotation.

By 2024, he was a starter. By 2025, he was one of the best defensive backs at the Division II level.

Now he gets a Power Four shot.

Over 38 career games, Rogers piled up 162 tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, 15 interceptions, 29 pass breakups and five forced fumbles.

The interceptions jump off the page, but the forced fumbles and tackles for loss tell the better story. He’s not just sitting back waiting for mistakes. He triggers downhill and creates chaos.

Texas Tech needed another safety, and Rogers checks that box with experience, toughness and playmaking production. He joins cornerback Davin Martin as the only defensive back additions from the transfer portal this offseason.

Will Rogers instantly become a star in Lubbock? That’s the question. But for a defense trying to stay nasty in 2026, this is exactly the kind of late addition worth betting on.
