Texas Tech will host New Mexico in 2027, renewing a long-running regional series and keeping the Red Raiders on track for six home games.

Texas Tech football has adjusted its 2027 non-conference schedule, and a familiar regional opponent is headed back to Lubbock.

The Red Raiders will host New Mexico on Sept. 18, 2027, at Jones AT&T Stadium, renewing a series that dates back nearly a century.

The matchup will mark the 46th all-time meeting between Texas Tech and New Mexico and the first time the programs have played since 2012.

New Mexico replaces North Texas on Texas Tech’s 2027 schedule. The Red Raiders had previously been set to travel to Denton, but Texas Tech canceled that road game in April in an effort to preserve at least six home games for the 2027 season.

For fans in Lubbock, this is a throwback matchup with plenty of history. Texas Tech owns a dominant 37-6-2 all-time record against the Lobos and has won 14 of the last 15 meetings.

The first game in the series came in 1931, when the Red Raiders beat New Mexico 32-6 in Lubbock.

The home-field edge has been just as lopsided. Texas Tech is 23-2 at home against New Mexico, and the Lobos have dropped nine straight games in Lubbock.

The last meeting between the schools came early in the 2012 season, when Texas Tech rolled to a 49-14 victory.

New Mexico is coming off a 9-4 season, giving the 2027 matchup a little more intrigue than a routine non-conference scheduling move.

The programs were once regular opponents, meeting annually from 1971 through 1986 while Texas Tech was in the Southwest Conference.

They’ve played nine times since the Red Raiders joined the Big 12 in 1996.

Texas Tech still has one more opening on its 2027 non-conference schedule and is looking to add a power conference opponent.
