Texas Tech is suddenly in the hunt for four-star edge Luke Nabors, giving the Red Raiders a real shot in a loaded 2028 recruiting battle.

Texas Tech didn’t waste much time making noise in Luke Nabors’ recruitment.

Less than a month after offering the four-star 2028 edge rusher, the Red Raiders are already hanging around with some of college football’s biggest brands.

That’s not a bad place to be.

Nabors, a standout from Buford, Georgia, has narrowed his recruitment, and Texas Tech made the cut alongside Notre Dame, Indiana, Miami, Georgia, Auburn, Texas, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Penn State and Ohio State.

For a program trying to keep pushing its recruiting ceiling higher, landing in that group is a pretty loud statement.

The numbers explain why this is important.

Nabors is rated as the No. 264 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite, the No. 24 edge defender in the country and the No. 34 player in Georgia.

At a premium position, that’s the kind of profile programs chase early and fight over late.

Texas Tech got its foot in the door when Nabors visited Lubbock for camp on June 7.

He left with a scholarship offer, and now the Red Raiders have given themselves a real chance to stay in the conversation. The next step is obvious: get him back on campus.

That won’t be easy. Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State and Auburn don’t exactly lose sleep over recruiting battles.

But Texas Tech has shown it’s not afraid to swing outside its usual footprint when the talent is worth it.

The Red Raiders recently proved that in Georgia by signing five-star edge LaDamion Guyton and three-star quarterback Stephen Cannon in the 2026 class.

That Peach State pipeline may not be massive yet, but it’s alive.

Texas Tech currently has punter Luc Norman as its only 2028 commitment while the staff continues to build a 2027 class ranked No. 8 nationally and No. 1 in the Big 12.

For Nabors, the race is just getting started. For Texas Tech, just being in it this early is a win — but now comes the hard part.
