No. 7 Texas Tech lands the No. 2 seed in the Corvallis Regional as Greg Sands’ Red Raiders chase a sixth straight NCAA Championship berth.

Texas Tech men’s golf is officially back in the NCAA Tournament, and the Red Raiders won’t be easing into the postseason.

The No. 7 team in the country was selected as the No. 2 seed in the Corvallis Regional, setting up a loaded 54-hole test May 18-20 at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Oregon.

For Greg Sands’ program, this has become familiar territory. Texas Tech has now reached the NCAA Tournament 24 straight seasons under Sands and 27 times overall.

That kind of consistency doesn’t happen by accident, and this year’s group will try to extend another streak by reaching the NCAA Championship for the sixth consecutive season.

The Red Raiders sit behind only Arkansas in the Corvallis field. The Razorbacks enter as the No. 1 seed and No. 6 team nationally, just one spot ahead of No. 7 Texas Tech.

Oklahoma, Charlotte and UCLA round out the top five seeds, while host Oregon State comes in as the No. 10 seed.

Trysting Tree Golf Club should provide a different kind of challenge. The Oregon State home course opened in 1988 along the Willamette River and features a links-style setup with bentgrass greens and fairways.

Its current routing includes redesigned holes completed in 2017 by Dan Hixson, a former Oregon State player.

The path is simple but demanding: finish in the top five and advance. The top five teams from each of the six NCAA regional sites move on, along with the lowest-scoring individual not on an advancing team.

If Texas Tech handles business in Corvallis, the Red Raiders will move on to the NCAA Championship, scheduled for May 29-June 3 at Omni La Costa Champions Course in Carlsbad, California.

The streak is impressive. Now Texas Tech gets a chance to make another postseason run.
