Texas Tech rewarded Krista Gerlich with a new contract through 2029-30 after a 26-win season, NCAA Tournament success and a major Lady Raiders turnaround.
Texas Tech women’s basketball is making sure Krista Gerlich remains the face of the Lady Raiders’ resurgence for years to come.
The school has reached a new four-year agreement with Gerlich that runs through the 2029-30 season, giving the Lady Raiders stability after one of the program’s best seasons in more than a decade.
The deal also includes a built-in incentive ... if Texas Tech reaches the NCAA Tournament during the first four years, another season would automatically be added.
The contract is valued at $3.1 million and comes with stronger bonuses tied to Big 12 play and postseason success.
It’s an understandable move after what Gerlich just delivered in Lubbock. Texas Tech finished 26-8 overall and 12-6 in Big 12 action this past season, tying for fourth in the league after being projected near the bottom in the preseason poll.
The Lady Raiders didn’t just return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013; they also earned the program’s first tournament win since 2005.
That breakthrough season was packed with milestones. Texas Tech opened 19-0, beat three top-15 opponents and spent 12 straight weeks inside the AP Top 25.
The Lady Raiders also posted their highest conference finish since 2012-13, their most overall wins since 2002-03 and their best Big 12 win total since 2004-05.
Gerlich, a Texas Tech alum, has now won 103 games as head coach and has guided the program to winning seasons in each of the last four years.
Her work this season earned her Big 12 Coach of the Year honors and placed her among the semifinalists for the Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year award.
For Texas Tech, this extension is about more than rewarding a coach for one big year.
It’s a bet that Gerlich has rebuilt the Lady Raiders into a program capable of staying relevant nationally.
