Texas Tech football recruiting is catching fire as Joey McGuire builds a 2027 class loaded with Texas talent and major defensive upside for the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech football recruiting is starting to build real momentum, and Joey McGuire’s early blueprint for the 2027 class is impossible to miss.

The Red Raiders are stacking talent, leaning heavily into the state of Texas, and putting a clear emphasis on defensive playmakers as they shape the future of the program.

That’s a smart play in this state. Texas Tech already has six known commitments in its 2027 recruiting class, and five of those prospects come from Texas.

That kind of in-state success matters, especially for a staff trying to lock down the Lone Star State and keep high-end talent closer to home.

McGuire has made Texas relationships a major part of his recruiting identity, and the early returns in this cycle suggest that approach is still paying off.

The headline names jump out immediately. Five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster of Cedar Hill gives Texas Tech a massive centerpiece up front, while four-star defensive lineman K’Adrian Redmond from DeSoto adds even more punch in the trenches.

Four-star linebacker Jhadyn Nelson of Houston is the newest name in the class, and his pledge keeps the defensive-heavy theme rolling.

Add in three-star edge Brody Pfannenstiel from Hoisington, Kansas, and Tech has already built a strong foundation on that side of the ball.

That should excite Red Raiders fans. Texas Tech also has offensive juice in the class.

Four-star quarterback Kavian Bryant from Palestine gives the Red Raiders a promising signal-caller to build around, while four-star wide receiver Benny Easter from Humble adds speed and playmaking ability on the perimeter.

That balance matters, but the biggest early takeaway is clear ... Tech is prioritizing toughness, size, and athleticism on defense.

For a program that made important strides defensively last season, that focus feels intentional.

It’s still early, and recruiting classes can shift plenty before signing day, but Texas Tech’s 2027 group already looks like one of the more intriguing classes in the region.

McGuire isn’t just adding names. He’s building a roster identity, and right now, it starts with Texas talent and defensive force.
