No. 13 Texas Tech takes its first trip to Corvallis as Will Hammond leads the Red Raiders into a road test against Oregon State on CBS.
No. 13 Texas Tech gets its first true road test of the 2026 season Saturday, and history says it won’t be a routine trip.
The Red Raiders travel to Corvallis for their first-ever game at Reser Stadium, facing Oregon State at 6:30 p.m. CT on CBS. Texas Tech is 2-0 all-time against the Beavers, but both previous meetings came in Lubbock.
The bigger challenge is Texas Tech’s recent nonconference road history.
The Red Raiders haven’t won a true nonconference road game since beating Houston in 2017. They’ve since lost road trips at Arizona, NC State, Wyoming and Washington State, making Saturday an early chance for Joey McGuire’s team to show it can travel.
Texas Tech enters with momentum after a 33-10 win over Abilene Christian.
Quarterback Will Hammond looked sharp in his return as the starter, completing his first 14 passes and finishing with 298 passing yards while completing 78.8 percent of his attempts.
He spread the ball to 10 receivers and looked comfortable despite returning from a major knee injury.
The running game also showed depth.
J’Koby Williams, Quinten Joyner and Cameron Dickey each received at least 10 carries and rushed for 40 or more yards, giving Texas Tech multiple options behind Hammond.
Defensively, the Red Raiders were just as impressive.
Abilene Christian managed only 194 total yards and 75 rushing yards, with its lone touchdown coming on a kickoff return. Texas Tech’s defense allowed just three offensive points.
The matchup also carries some history.
Texas Tech dominated Oregon State 45-14 last season, when Behren Morton threw for 464 yards and four touchdowns. The Red Raiders led 45-0 after three quarters in that meeting.
Saturday should feel very different.
Oregon State is making its 2026 home debut at Reser Stadium, while Texas Tech is trying to prove its ranking and erase a road trend that has lingered for nearly a decade.
For the Red Raiders, this game is less about revenge or rivalry and more about validation.
Beat Oregon State on the road, and Texas Tech can start looking like the Big 12 contender many expected.
Lose, and that nonconference road problem becomes a much bigger story.
