Texas Tech will host Houston in a marquee ESPN Big Monday matchup Feb. 15 as the Red Raiders return to the national spotlight in Lubbock.
Texas Tech basketball is getting another prime-time stage.
The Red Raiders will host Houston on Monday, Feb. 15, 2027, in one of five Big 12 games selected for ESPN's Big Monday package.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN at United Supermarkets Arena, setting up another high-profile meeting between two programs that have produced increasingly meaningful matchups.
For Texas Tech, the assignment comes with some recent history.
The Red Raiders knocked off then-No. 6 Houston 90-86 in Lubbock last January, snapping the Cougars' 16-game road winning streak and an 11-game overall winning streak.
Texas Tech finished 14-2 at home during the 2025-26 season.
That victory also produced one of the defining performances of Tech's season.
JT Toppin finished with 31 points and 12 rebounds, while Donovan Atwell and Jaylen Petty scored 18 apiece. Atwell and Petty combined for nine 3-pointers.
Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland pointed afterward to his team's willingness to fight through Houston's second-half push.
“What I was most thrilled about is that we didn't back down,” McCasland said after the victory.
That attitude will be tested again when Kelvin Sampson brings Houston back to Lubbock.
The programs have split their regular-season series in each of the past two seasons, and the last seven meetings have featured ranked teams on both sides, giving the matchup legitimate national appeal.
Texas Tech is also coming off its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance under McCasland.
The Red Raiders finished 23-11 overall and 12-6 in Big 12 play last season, defeated Akron 91-71 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and were eliminated by Alabama in the Round of 32.
One familiar weapon will be back for 2026-27. Atwell elected to return for a fifth season after establishing Texas Tech and Big 12 shooting records. He made a school-record 130 3-pointers last season, including a Big 12-record 81 during conference play.
The Houston matchup gives Texas Tech another opportunity to showcase its program nationally ... and this time, the ESPN cameras will arrive in Lubbock specifically for Monday night.
The rest of the Big Monday slate includes Kansas at Houston, TCU at Arizona, Arizona at BYU and Iowa State at Kansas.
For the Red Raiders, though, Feb. 15 is already circled.
