Texas Tech softball hosts Marist in the NCAA Lubbock Regional as NiJaree Canady, Mihyia Davis and Kaitlyn Terry lead a loaded Red Raiders roster.
Texas Tech softball enters the NCAA Lubbock Regional with star power, postseason experience and a real chance to make noise at home.
The No. 11-seeded Red Raiders open regional play Friday at 3:30 p.m. against Marist at Tracy Sellers Field, with Ole Miss and Boston University meeting earlier in the day.
For Texas Tech, hosting a second straight NCAA Regional is another sign of how far the program has climbed under Gerry Glasco.
The roster is built for this stage. NiJaree Canady, the reigning National Pitcher of the Year, enters the postseason with more than 1,000 career strikeouts and 97 wins.
She’s one of only two active pitchers with 1,000 strikeouts, and her senior day perfect game against Baylor showed she’s trending at the right time.
Mihyia Davis gives Texas Tech one of the nation’s most disruptive offensive players.
Among active players, she leads the country in hits with 336, at-bats with 829 and stolen bases with 136. She’s also the only active player with 300 career hits.
Kaitlyn “KT” Terry has been just as important. She’s hitting .471, sixth-best nationally, while also carrying a 1.30 ERA and a 22-1 pitching record.
Terry set the school record with a 24-game hitting streak and reached base in 36 straight games.
The Red Raiders also bring a hot bat in Jasmyn Burns, who has 17 home runs and 54 RBI after a recent power surge that included four homers in four games.
Texas Tech’s depth showed in the Big 12 awards, with seven All-Big 12 selections. Glasco repeated as Coach of the Year, while Canady shared Pitcher of the Year honors.
With Canady in the circle, Davis setting the table and Terry doing a little bit of everything, Texas Tech has the pieces to turn its home regional into the start of a deep NCAA Tournament run.
