Texas Tech soccer continued an unbelievable 18-game unbeaten streak with its first win over TCU in Fort Worth since 2014. The result sent the Red Raiders shooting up the rankings to No. 8.

LUBBOCK -- Texas Tech soccer had a national audience during its Sunday trip to Fort Worth and the Red Raiders did not disappoint in a 1-0 victory over TCU.

The result marked the 18th straight without a loss in regulation for the team in an impressive stretch that continues to grow.

It also marked a momentous accomplishment in the series history with the rival Horned Frogs.

While the foes have faced off nearly every year for over three decades with a tight all-time record, the Red Raiders have struggled in recent matchups with the familiar foe.

Since TCU joined the Big 12 in 2012, Texas Tech had only ever beaten the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth a single time, 2014, before Sunday's win.

Despite being unable to get the elusive win, the Red Raiders have denied their rivals the chance to defeat them in their last five matches with a record of 2-0-3, as of Sunday's result.

TCU may not be having the season it hoped for after claiming the Big 12 Regular Season Championship a year ago, but walking out of its home field with a victory is never an easy task.

And voters in the various polls around the sport appear to agree with that statement.

Fresh off a win over not only the Horned Frogs but a 3-0 shutout in Stillwater against Oklahoma State, Texas Tech found itself climbing up the rankings.

In the iWSOC Top-25 Coaches Poll, the Red Raiders vaulted from No. 12 to No. 8 after recording the two road results.

It is the first top 10 ranking of the season for Texas Tech and, of course, the highest thus far. The Red Raiders also lead the Big 12 in the poll, which mirrors their place in the league standings.

Behind them from the conference is No. 12 West Virginia, No. 13 Baylor, No. 19 Kansas and No. 22 BYU.

Texas Tech will see one of those fellow ranked squads very soon, as it heads out to Provo later this week for a Friday night battle with No. 22 BYU.

The Cougars are 8-3-2 on the year and posted a 1-1-0 record this past week, with that loss coming to the Mountaineers in Morgantown by a score of 2-0.

In its brief stint in the Big 12, BYU has never lost to the Red Raiders with a 1-0-1 record, including a 2-1 win in Lubbock to close out the 2024 season in the most recent meeting.

The prior win in Fort Worth has already proven that this year's squad led by Tom Stone is not afraid of past results and the trip to Provo provides yet another opportunity for Texas Tech to cement that fact and secure its spot within the top 10.
