Texas Tech hosts Baylor for Senior Day after winning the Big 12 title, with postseason seeding still on the line.

Texas Tech softball has already claimed the Big 12 regular-season championship, but the Red Raiders still have plenty to play for this weekend in Lubbock.

No. 2/4 Texas Tech enters its regular-season finale against Baylor at 48-4 overall and 19-2 in Big 12 play, with a three-game series beginning Thursday at Tracy Sellers Field.

The Red Raiders are chasing postseason positioning, while Baylor, sitting at 27-23 and 9-12, needs a strong finish to protect its place in the Big 12 Tournament field.

Saturday’s finale will also bring Senior Day, with Texas Tech honoring Jackie Lis, Victoria Valdez, Alana Johnson, NiJaree Canady, Nikolette Schmidt, Mihyia Davis and Chloe Riassetto.

The biggest reason Tech remains a national title threat is its elite two-way firepower. NiJaree Canady and Kaitlyn Terry have been one of the best combinations in college softball.

Canady, the reigning National Pitcher of the Year, owns a 1.34 ERA and 20-3 record after passing 1,000 career strikeouts. She’s also the only active player with both 1,000 strikeouts and 90 wins.

Terry has been just as important. She’s hitting .489, sixth nationally, while also carrying a 1.47 ERA and 20-1 record in the circle. She added 10 home runs and set a school record with a 24-game hitting streak.

Mihyia Davis brings another historic resume, leading all active players with 330 hits, 812 at-bats and 136 stolen bases. Lis has supplied major power, pushing her season total to 15 home runs and her career mark to 59.

With coach Gerry Glasco still unbeaten in conference series across his career, Texas Tech enters the weekend with confidence, star power and one more chance to sharpen up before May softball arrives.
