Texas Tech softball is nearing its anticipated return after another memorable run last year. Before the season truly gets started, the Red Raiders will showcase their newest roster in five fall exhibition outings.
LUBBOCK -- Texas Tech will unveil the latest incarnation of its highly touted softball program in just a few short weeks.
The Red Raiders announcing their fall ball schedule on social media Monday, which consists of a five-game slate including four matchups at Tracy Sellers Field.
Red Raider Nation will get their first glimpse at the new lineup during the fall debut against Division II foe West Texas A&M on Saturday, October 3 at 2 p.m.
Texas Tech will then pay a visit to Canyon for another date with the Buffs the following weekend at Schaeffer Park on Sunday, October 11 at 2 p.m.
The Red Raiders return home to face New Mexico in a double-header on Sunday, October 18 beginning at noon at Tracy Sellers Field.
The sneak-peek slate wraps up on Saturday, October 24 at 1 p.m., when nearby Odessa College makes a stop in Lubbock.
Fresh off back-to-back Women's College World Series Runner-Up finishes, Texas Tech is primed for another unforgettable season on the diamond.
Although softball superstar NiJaree Canady has since departed, as well as other notable figures for the past two squads, head coach Gerry Glasco has put in the work to reload the Red Raiders.
In what has become a sort of tradition since Glasco arrived in Lubbock, Texas Tech boasted the nation's top transfer class after snagging one game-changing piece after another in the latest portal cycle.
These additions include former LSU pitcher Jayden Heavener, Moriah Polar, who led the country in batting average last year at Purdue, and Oklahoma product Kasadi Pickering.
That trio barely scratches the surface of a group that consisted of half of the top eight prospects and five within the top 12, according to Softball America.
This does not even account for the talent that was leftover from the past two runs for Texas Tech.
Including phenomenal two-way play Kaitlyn Terry, who looks to take up ace responsibilities from Canady, stellar slugger Mia Williams and Lubbock Regional hero Lauren Allred in the outfield.
It would be naive to think that Glasco would reveal all his tricks and for the Red Raiders to showcase their peak performance in a few warm-up games months before the season actually gets underway.
However, the initial outings can still help paint of picture of what is in store for Texas Tech when the first real pitch of the year is thrown and help the Red Raiders iron out any last-minute flaws.
For those in Lubbock, it simply marks an opportunity to enjoy some extra action from a program that has brought unprecedented recognition and success to the university.
Texas Tech will aim to continue this legacy of winning this season and it all begins with those five matchups in early October.
