Texas Tech softball stayed red-hot with a 12-4 run-rule win over BYU, extending its winning streak to 13 behind Mia Williams and NiJaree Canady.
Texas Tech softball kept rolling Saturday, finishing off a sweep of BYU with a 12-4 victory in five innings at Rocky Johnson Field.
The No. 2 Red Raiders improved to 38-2 overall and 14-1 in Big 12 play, stretching their winning streak to 13 games with another explosive offensive performance.
The big story for Texas Tech softball was its ability to answer every BYU push before blowing the game open late.
BYU landed the first punch with a leadoff home run, but the Red Raiders wasted little time responding. Mia Williams helped set the tone, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and blasting her 14th home run of the season.
Her bat continues to be one of the biggest reasons Texas Tech is playing like a national title contender.
The offense had production up and down the lineup. Mihyia Davis went 2-for-4, doubled and swiped her 29th stolen base of the year, once again pressuring the defense with her speed.
Jasmyn Burns delivered the loudest swing of the day, launching a three-run homer and finishing with three RBIs. Lauren Allred and Kaitlyn Terry each drove in two runs, while Hailey Toney and Jackie Lis also scored in the win.
Texas Tech finally seized full control in the fourth inning. After BYU tied the game 4-4 with another home run, the Red Raiders answered with a huge frame built on hustle, speed and timely two-out hitting.
Terry’s RBI double put Tech back in front, Burns’ three-run shot broke the game open, and Allred added a two-run single to create a comfortable cushion.
In the circle, NiJaree Canady earned the win in relief and improved to 15-2 after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Samantha Lincoln started and added three strikeouts of her own before Canady took over.
Texas Tech capped the run-rule win in the fifth when Taylor Pannell drove in the final run. Next up is another Big 12 road trip, with the Red Raiders heading to Utah.
