The Red Raiders got back on the winner's list last week, but now a dominant rushing attack comes to Jones A&T Stadium for Texas Tech to try to slow down.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders will welcome West Virginia to Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday, with Joey McGuire's team looking to restart their winning streak.
After losing their first game of the season a couple of weeks ago, the Red Raiders bounced back last week with a 34-26 win over Arizona to move to 7-1.
Texas Tech had been one of the most consistent teams in college football, but they hit the skids against Cincinnati; as all good teams do, they respond. And the Red Raiders did just that.
But now come the Mountaineers, who are 5-3 on the season and have won back-to-back games against Cincinnati and Texas Christian.
So both teams come into this one in winning form, but for most, the Red Raiders should be taking care of business here. Then again, we thought that against Cincinnati, and look how that turned out.
For the Mountaineers, they average a crisp 35.9 points per game with quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. throwing for 1,598 yards, 11 TDs, and two interceptions, but he is averaging 17.8 yards per pass completion, so West Virginia is moving the chains.
The Red Raiders' defense will have to be mindful of receiver DJ Epps, who is easily the Mountaineers' best weapon, posting 556 yards and 5 TDs.
But West Virginia is great at running the ball, with Cam Cook (923 yards, 7 TDs), and quarterback Hawkins Jr. already rushing for 836 yards and a whopping 16 TDs this season.
No, that isn't a typo.
The Red Raiders have the weapons on both sides of the ball to make life hell for the Mountaineers with receiver Kenny Johnson (584 yards) and running back J'Koby Williams (794 yards, 6 TDs).
But the defense, led by Anthony Holmes (7.5 TFLs, 7.5 sacks), should be the driving force in this one.
