Texas Tech has not made things easy on itself during a 5-0 start to the season. Was this latest comeback against Colorado the final wake-up call needed to change for good?
LUBBOCK - Texas Tech took care of Colorado in a 29-7 win to get the Red Raiders to 5-0 on the season. While the final score was to be expected, it was anything but a normal path to get the victory.
During their stop in Boulder, the Red Raiders had to erase a 7-3 deficit in the second half after a first half that was sloppy, sluggish and a polar opposite to what should be seen from a borderline top ten team.
Obviously based on the final score, Texas Tech was able to flip the script and in a big way, which was carried heavily by some key defensive efforts following halftime.
The Buffs committed four costly interceptions to essentially give the lead to the Red Raiders and prevent any sort of comeback on their part.
This is not a new sight this season for the Red Raiders, as all five of their matchups have been narrow in the first half and two of those have seen Texas Tech trailing at the break.
The season debut against Abilene Christian is the only game so far this season in which Texas Tech has been up by multiple possessions at the end of the opening half.
Even non-conference foes Oregon State and Sam Houston were able to be within seven points of the Red Raiders before their second-half turnarounds.
In the first half of its previous five games, Texas Tech holds the slim 66-45 edge in scoring over its opponents.
Compare that to the second half, where the Red Raiders have owned the scoreboard with a 103-33 advantage.
That stretch also includes two straight second-half shutouts over Sam Houston and Colorado.
Wins are wins and Texas Tech does not owe anyone any apologies for being 5-0 and Joey McGuire definitely will not be issuing one.
As McGuire has reiterated time and time again, Texas Tech does not have to fix these glaring issues coming off a loss and for the fifth-straight week that proved to the case.
There is still plenty to work on for the Red Raiders to get back to the level from last year and reach those lofty preseason goals set for this season's squad.
Entering the bye week, the biggest question looming for the Red Raiders is whether this be the week that these changes finally start to take root, or will it be another repeat when Texas Tech returns home to face Arizona State on Oct. 17?
If it is the former, Texas Tech could start to become the juggernaut that many expected heading into the season just in time to make a push toward another Big 12 Championship.
