Texas Tech kicker Stone Harrington had another impressive outing leading the Red Raiders on special teams, which drew the attention of the Big 12 in the form of a weekly award.
LUBBOCK -- No. 8 Texas Tech was impressive in its latest outing against Arizona State, which culminated in a 53-25 win over the Sun Devils to wrap up Homecoming in Lubbock.
The Red Raiders got it done on both sides of the both in one of, if not, the most complete performances this season.
However, the team was also exceptional in the final and third phase of the game that is often overlooked, especially during the dominant display that was put up by Texas Tech on Saturday.
At the forefront of the unit was kicker Stone Harrington, whose efforts earned him the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week award.
Harrington was instrumental in the Red Raiders' breakout offensive showcase over the Sun Devils, with four successful field goals to methodically stretch out the lead.
Those four successful kicks were one short of tying the program record for Texas Tech, which was ironically set by himself last year in the first win over BYU.
On top of the field goals, Harrington converted all but one of his extra point attempts for a total of 17 points contributed to the grand total of 53 for Texas Tech.
The attention from the Big 12 is not a shock after Harrington made conference history as the fifth kicker to have at least four games with four or more made field goals.
It is the first time this season that Harrington is seen his name listed among the top performers from the past week, but it is far from the debut for Texas Tech.
In the special teams department alone, it is a fourth accolade for the Red Raiders, as punter Will Karoll notched two straight titles and three in a four-week span to begin the season.
Overall, Texas Tech now has seven weekly awards under its belt, with the Red Raiders' defensive line being honored alongside Harrington this week to reach the milestone.
Head coach Joey McGuire was adamant heading into the season that he was looking for Texas Tech to capitalize on red-zone trips with touchdowns, even dubbing it the "No Stone Zone."
However, Harrington being such a reliable piece still suiting up for the Red Raiders helps alleviate the pressure to score on literally every drive and provides a failsafe when Will Hammond and company are not at their best.
The Red Raiders will keep looking to cash in more often than not, but in the meantime, Harrington will be at their disposal to seemingly guarantee points when his name is called.
Texas Tech heads to Cincinnati for its first-ever road meeting with the Bearcats this Saturday at 11 a.m. The Red Raiders will look to keep their foot on the gas, with Harrington ready to be an ace in the hole once again.
