Tight end Terrance Carter Jr. could be one of the most sought-after offensive talents in the 2027 NFL Draft.
The 2026 NFL Draft has just been concluded, and now we have some 2027 mock drafts floating around, and Texas Tech's Terrance Carter Jr. is set to be a name we're going to hear frequently.
Coming off a 2025 season with the Red Raiders that saw Carter Jr. post 624 yards and 5 TDs from 55 receptions in his first year since transferring from Louisiana, Terrance is a nightmare matchup for defenses.
Combining speed, power and his elite YAC (yards after the catch) ability, it is no wonder Carter Jr. is already being spoken about as a first-round talent next year.
Of course, there is a lot of water to go under the bridge, but Carter Jr. laid a great foundation in 2025, and if he can continue that upward trajectory, then a host of NFL teams will be wanting his services in 2027.
But who? Which teams could be on the lookout for a stud tight end to give their offense a different flavor?
For CBS Sports' Ryan Wilson, in his 2027 mock draft, he has Carter Jr. going to perhaps the best situation possible -- the San Francisco 49ers at pick No. 26.
"Carter Jr. is a long-striding playmaker who threatens all three levels of the field and runs like a power back after the catch," Wilson wrote. "While he struggles with focus drops at times, his combination of vertical speed and high-effort blocking makes him a dynamic weapon as offenses continue to use more multiple TE sets."
Let's not forget, the 49ers still have George Kittle on the roster, so in theory, Carter Jr. could get a year or two to learn the ropes from Kittle and then potentially take over the starting role in Kyle Shanahan's offense.
Yes, I'm getting a little ahead of myself, but Terrance possesses all the traits that Shanahan wants in his tight ends.
He's fast, versatile, extremely athletic, and given the 49ers' scheme under Kyle, he could be a YAC monster in open space.
Of course, given Carter Jr.'s talents, there is a real chance that he goes earlier than No. 26, in a similar way Kenyon Sadiq did this year.
There's no denying the talent, and if Carter Jr. excels again for the Red Raiders, then come draft time next year, he'll be one of the most sought-after offensive talents in a draft filled with top quarterbacks.
