The transfer portal is about to light up again, and one of the biggest names at the position might be a natural match for the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby announced his intention to enter the portal, and it didn't take long for major programs to be linked to him, with Texas Tech among the early expected contenders.

On paper, it's easy to see why.
Sorsby just delivered the best season of his college career in 2025, earning second-team All-Big 12 honors from the coaches. He threw for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns, and only five interceptions, showing the kind of decision-making and efficiency that offensive coordinators covet.
Add in 580 rushing yards and nine rushing scores, and you get the full picture of a true dual-threat quarterback who can drive an offense for four quarters.
Physically, Sorsby checks every box that fits a modern Texas Tech attack.
At 6-3 and 235 pounds, he carries an NFL-ready frame, combining size, toughness, and mobility. He's big enough to absorb contact in the pocket and powerful enough to be a factor in the designed run game.
For a program that thrives on tempo and stress, that skill set pairs perfectly with what the Red Raiders want to be.
The arm talent is what makes him a potential game-changer in Lubbock. Sorsby posted one of the best "big-time throw" rates in the country this fall, consistently pushing the ball downfield and hitting tight windows.
In Big 12 play, he tossed 19 touchdowns with just four interceptions, and he led the conference in passing efficiency among quarterbacks who logged at least eight league games.
He can attack all three levels, throw from multiple arm slots, and still keep turnovers low ... exactly what you want in a portal QB built for contention, not rebuilding.

Texas Tech, meanwhile, just completed another explosive offensive season, finishing with over 42 points per game, 480 yards per game, and more than 200 plays of 10-plus yards. Plugging in a veteran playmaker like Sorsby into that framework would keep the Red Raiders firmly in the national conversation and the expanded College Football Playoff hunt.
Add in the NIL reality as reports suggest Sorsby could command north of $4 million in deals, and he'll be courted like a franchise piece.
For Texas Tech, landing him would be more than just adding another arm. It would be a statement that the Red Raiders plan to stay near the top of the offensive leaderboard ... and the Big 12 standings in 2026 and beyond.
