Former Auburn star Cam Coleman has announced his commitment, and it's a rare miss for Joey McGuire in the

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders had made the transfer portal's biggest splash by landing top-ranked passer Brendan Sorsby.

But they have missed out on making even more waves by pairing him with the top-ranked pass-catcher.

Former Auburn star Cam Coleman, the portal's best available wide receiver who visited finalists Texas Tech, Texas, and Texas A&M, announced Sunday that he is committed to Arch Manning and the Longhorns.

This season, Coleman had 56 catches for 708 yards and five touchdowns at 12.6 yards per reception. In two seasons, Coleman posted 93 catches for 1,306 yards, 13 touchdowns and 14 yards per catch for the Tigers.

Rumors on social media suggested that Coleman actually suffered from food poisoning during his visit to Lubbock after Joey McGuire and staff took him to Las Brisas Steakhouse in town, but there have been no confirmed reports.

Though it's misfortune for McGuire and the Red Raiders, it's perhaps the biggest loss for Texas A&M, who loses top receiver KC Concepcion to the NFL Draft and sees their top choice of a replacement choose their hated rivals.

Texas Tech is also losing production on the outside with leading receiver in yards Caleb Douglas declaring for the Draft, but big contributors Reggie Virgil and Coy Eakin are expected to return, along with versatile tight end Terrence Carter Jr.

In the portal, McGuire has already landed a handful of pass-catchers in Nevada TE Jett Carpenter, Liberty wideout Donte Lee Jr., and Alabama State speedster Jalen Jones.

Even with missing out on Coleman, On3 has Texas Tech ranked as the No. 1 transfer portal class in 2026 with 15 commitments in total.

Tech also notably returns former five-star high school wide receiver Micah Hudson, who was previously the Red Raiders' highest-rated high school signee in program history before the team committed so strongly to the transfer portal these last two cycles.

Hudson is still waiting for a greater opportunity to see the field, but as a whole, the Red Raiders will still have plenty weapons to compete offensively in the Big 12 next year.

The conference champs head into 2026 returning each of the three top running backs with Cameron Dickey and J'Koby Williams leading a committee attack that steamrolled through the conference slate. You can add Quentin Joyner to that mix as well as he is approaching his Red Raider debut.

Former USC transfer Quentin Joyner was expected to be last year's Week 1 starter, but he suffered a season-ending knee injury.
