LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders powered their way to a Big 12 title in 2025 off of the strength of an elite defense, especially in the trenches.
Multiple defensive lineman will get drafted into the NFL this spring, and with newly-minted championship expectations growing in West Texas, head coach Joey McGuire is keeping the foot on the gas by reloading the roster with blue-chip talent.
Among the Red Raiders' top recruits in the next cycle is 5-star offensive lineman Felix Ojo out of Mansfield, who previously was a member of the 2027 class before reclassifying up in order to get to Texas Tech sooner.
Looking into 2027, the new top recruit is defensive tackle Jalen Brewster ... and oh yeah, he's also committed to the Red Raiders.
The pedigree for Brewster grew this week as his was ranked atop ESPN's SC Next Junior 300 rankings. He is a prospect the outlet believes will be an immediate impact player upon getting to school next offseason.
"Stopping the run played a vital role in Tech's Big 12 championship and College Football Playoff appearance in 2025," wrote analysts Craig Haubert and Tom Luginbill.
"A 300-pound defensive tackle, Brewster is a jumbo athlete who even worked out of the Wildcat in high school. He has an excellent blend of quickness, agility and power to both take on double-teams and disrupt plays in the backfield. Brewster could develop into a role similar to Lee Hunter, though Brewster is a more dynamic pass rusher."
His 2025 season highlights below showcase a rare burst that pairs strength and quickness off the line.
Brewster comes by way of Cedar Hill High School, a 6A powerhouse in south Dallas that McGuire built an empire at with multiple state championships before he jumped into collegiate coaching. The star recruit committed to McGuire's Texas Tech on Oct. 4 of last year and has kept his word despite multiple changes on McGuire's staff since the end of the Red Raiders' season.
Joining Brewster in the 2027 class is 4-star quarterback Kavian Bryant, who out of Westwood in Palestine, Texas is thought to be one of the top up-and-coming gunslingers in the state.
With two elite prospects on their way to Lubbock in the near future, the Red Raiders are poised to take complete ownership of the Big 12 and draw closer to premier contention on the national level.
