Plenty can be said about the Tulane Green Wave heading into the first round of the College Football Playoff: the team is loaded with talent at each position, never backs down from a fight and seems to be clicking at just the right time.
But what about the Ole Miss Rebels?
Much of the attention on Ole Miss over the past few weeks has centered around the departure of former head coach Lane Kiffin to the rival LSU Tigers. Since then, defensive coordinator Pete Golding has taken over as the permanent head coach, and a handful of offensive assistants who joined Kiffin in Baton Rouge have returned just to coach in the CFP. It's been a whirlwind of a month up in Oxford.
In all honesty, it might not matter who is calling the plays for the Rebels on Saturday: they've got some incredible athletes all across the field. Here's a look at which Ole Miss players Tulane will definitely need to keep an eye on heading into the matchup.
Chambliss was a name often brought up as a Heisman snub, and although he wasn't invited to the official ceremony, he did receive two first place votes.
There's good reason for that, too. The transfer quarterback didn't start for the Rebels until Week 3, but he finished the regular season with 3,016 passing yards and 18 touchdowns to just three interceptions. His accuracy was an issue at times, but he certainly had the arm to air it out downfield. Additionally, Chambliss rushed for 470 yards and six touchdowns.
It's hard to find a better dual-threat quarterback in the entire nation. The Green Wave defense will have its hands full against a standout athlete who can make plays in every way imaginable.
Lacy quietly cemented himself as one of the top running backs in the nation this season.
The sophomore rushed for 1,279 yards and 20 touchdowns this year alone, breaking countless school records along the way. He has elite speed and is incredibly difficult to take down, with an attitude that nobody can tackle him without a fight. He's a fan-favorite up in Oxford for a good reason.
Lacy has been especially strong in the latter half of the season, and it's easy to imagine that he'll be in top shape after having a few weeks to rest a bit. When he and Chambliss combine, they form a two-headed monster that has been difficult for most teams to contain.
Ole Miss has quite a few outstanding wideouts who receive the ball in near equal amounts. Of the eight players who have recorded more than 10 catches this season, seven are averaging more than 10 yards per reception.
In a room full of impressive wideouts, Wallace and Alexander have stood just a bit above the rest. Wallace leads the team with 46 receptions for 719 yards, and he's also hauled in three touchdowns on the year. On the other hand, Alexander's 577 yards on 34 receptions gives him an average of 17.0 yards per catch, which leads all players who have hauled in at least 10 catches. Additionally, he posted an 88-yard receiving touchdown earlier this year.
Those might be considered the top two wide receivers on the team statistically, but there's a few others who have made their marks. Cayden Lee sits third in total yardage and has three touchdowns, while De'Zhaun Stripling leads the unit with five receiving touchdowns. Tight end Dae'Quan Wright has also been impactful with 30 catches for 489 yards and four touchdowns.
