The Green Wave picked up multiple team and individual victories across six sports over the weekend.
As the fall sports season continues, the Tulane Green Wave has seen quite a bit of success across the board.
Over the weekend, Tulane made waves in six different sports: volleyball, women's cross country, women's swimming and diving, sailing, women's bowling and women's golf. The success was contagious across the board, with multiple programs notching strong finishes and athletes seeing themselves recognized for stellar performances.
Swimming and diving finished in fourth place at the TYR Fall Classic on Saturday, with a total of 1018.50 points and a plethora of top-five event finishes. Sophomore Eliza Lennox earned American Conference Swimmer of the Week honors after winning both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, setting meet records in both events. Teammate Fiona Keilly was named the league's Freshman Diver of the Week after placing third in the three-meter dive and 11th in the one-meter dive.
On the cross country course, the Green Wave saw four runners compete in the Nicholls XC Invitational. Though the program did not have enough competitors to count towards a team score, each runner finished within the top six. Morgan Matthews completed the 5K race with a personal-best time of 18:35.3 to finish as the meet's runner up, while freshman Sophia Galiano-Sanchez came in third with an 18:48.8 finish. Jasper Newton (19:04.9) and Eliza Brand (19:26.2) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Volleyball continued its historic start to American play with a 3-1 win over the Wichita State Shockers. The program has now won eight matches in a row and is a perfect 4-0 in league play. After clinching the first set by a score of 25-17, Tulane would drop the second set before winning sets three and four to secure the win. Lauryn Mack was named the American Conference Offensive Player of the Week following her 39.6 points, 36 kills, 26 digs, five blocks, two assists and one service ace across two matches played.
The 17th-ranked Green Wave women's bowling team won the Southwest Intercollegiate Bowling Conference I with a bowl of 5,317 across qualifying matches. The team would go on to take down the No. 7 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in the bracket finals to secure the win. Vicky Lizarazo, Valeria Colon and Malia Briggs claimed the top three spots. The team finished as the runner-up for SWIBC II, which featured traditional bowling games. Juanelyz Solla, Linnea Holcomb and Colon placed in the top five.
Women's golf placed third at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate at the University of Denver Golf Club, finishing the tournament with a three-round total of 863 (-1) and 49 birdies. Sophomore Sophia Macias finished tied for first in individual standings with 7-under three-day total of 209. Francesca Pompa also placed in the top 10, with a ninth-place score of 214 (-2) across three rounds.
Lastly, Tulane sailing competed successfully in a pair of regattas over the weekend. The team placed third out of 17 teams at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship - Round One, finishing with a final score of 103 through 10 rotations. The Green Wave then finished sixth out of 19 teams at the Danmark Trophy in Connecticut with a score of 188 through 11 rotations.
