The Green Wave brought the energy and excitement to open up preseason action.
The Tulane Green Wave has started training camp with a bang.
The team stepped into Uptown this morning with determination, excitement and lots of energy. It sure seems like the Green Wave is ready to begin its journey towards repeating as American Conference Champions and work for a second-straight appearance in the College Football Playoff.
Many of the team's highly-regarded returners have picked up right where they left off, but there are a handful of newcomers who are fighting hard for a potential starting spot. There's been no shortage of big plays to start the preseason, as shown by videos posted on Tulane's social media accounts.
A nice route and catch by Destyn Hill was the first big glimpse of the wide receiver given to fans -- and it shows what everyone has been hoping for.
Hill joined the team in the offseason as an LSU Tigers transfer, instantly becoming one of the biggest grabs out of the portal for the Green Wave. He's expected to play a key role in Tulane's wideout room this year, and though he didn't post an abundance of stats at previous stops, his talent is impressive.
Plus, Hill is an Edna Karr High School graduate, so there's the added excitement of a "hometown hero" returning to New Orleans.
Meanwhile, safety Jack Tchienchou is picking up right where he left off as he gears up for what's expected to be a massive season.
The redshirt junior out of Atlanta, Georgia, had a stellar 2025 campaign, ending the year with 83 total tackles, two tackles-for-loss, one sack, three pass breakups and two interceptions. He's received plenty of praise leading into the 2026 season and is expected to be one of the team's best players.
What better way to kick off another season than by making one of the best plays that the team will see this offseason? Tchienchou impressed this morning with a one-handed interception in the end zone, leaping completely off the ground and extending his arm to haul in the pick. If he can make those types of unbelievable plays this year, then there's no doubt that he'll be recognized as one of the league's top defenders.
Finally, is there a third quarterback in this season's battle for the starting spot? Trace Johnson has received some hype heading into his freshman season, but he's already living up to it. The Laguna Niguel, California, native dropped a deep dime to redshirt sophomore wide receiver Seth Gale for a touchdown in a play from scrimmage today.
Depending on how things shake out as training camp continues, there's a chance that Johnson hears his name called sooner rather than later.
