Salsberry is bringing one of the best throwing seasons in Tulane track and field history to the LSU Alumni Gold.
The Tulane Green Wave track and field team is coming off a wildly successful weekend where the team split into two across the country with meets in Houston and California. Up next on their outdoor campaign is the LSU Alumni Gold at Bernie Moore Stadium, where a pair of Green Wave field athletes will represent the team: Cara Salsberry and Presley Wolfe. Salsberry will compete in the hammer throw and discus while Wolfe will compete in pole vault. Salsberry is entering the weekend in the midst of a record season in program history, nothing multiple program records and national rankings in her 2026 campaign.
Salsberry will compete in the hammer throw at 10:00 am on Saturday. She has set – and then broken – the Tulane program record twice this season, with the most recent record set last weekend at the Tom Tellez Alumni Invitational where she hurled a 59.54m. That mark is best for 60th in the NCAA in the hammer throw. Her back-to-back record setting season is one of the best in Green Wave history.
Salsberry will then compete in the discus at 1:15 pm on Saturday. She is currently second-all time in program history with a 50.03 mark, which she also accomplished last weekend in Houston. That mark is also good for 95th in the nation in discus. Salsberry is still chasing the program record set by Jelena Jurlina, who holds the all-time mark of 55.27m set in 2004. But given her momentum all year, it certainly seems achievable. The two-day event in Baton Rouge, La. will give her an opportunity to build on her hammer throw record while chasing the record in discus before the end of the regular season campaign.
Wolfe will represent the Wave in the pole vault at 12:45 pm on Saturday as the second athlete making the trip to Baton Rouge.
It’s the penultimate weekend of Tulane’s regular season campaign as it wraps up next weekend with a pair of meets for the team. A contingent will head to College Station, Tx., for a second time this season, for the Texas A&M's Alumni Muster from May 1-2. A separate group for the Wave will compete again for another one-day LSU event, the LSU invitational on May 2. The team will get an off weekend before heading to Denton, Tx. to cap off an electric season filled with multiple program records with the American Conference Outdoor Championships.
