The linebacker had 14 tackles in Tulane's win over South Alabama.

Tulane Green Wave standout Dickson Agu has been named a Comeback Player of the Week after a stellar outing in the team's 28-24 come-from-behind win over the South Alabama Jaguars.

The award is presented weekly to a handful of offensive and defensive players from the Comeback Player of the Year Award watch list, which was released in August in a joint effort by College Sports Communicators, The Associated Press and the Fiesta Bowl Organization. Other honorees following Week Two of action include John Henry Daily of the Michigan Wolverines, UMass Minutemen student-athlete T.Y. Harding, Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Justice Haynes, Moses Walker of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and North Texas Mean Green standout Jahiem White.

Agu had an outstanding night on the gridiron, picking up a team-high 14 tackles -- four of which were solo -- in his first game back at Yulman Stadium since suffering a knee injury in 2025. The redshirt junior has had a hot start to the season and is up to 23 total tackles and one fumble recovery through two games played, giving him an American Conference-best average of 11.5 tackles per game. He had a similarly strong start to his shortened 2025 campaign, picking up 36 tackles, two tackles-for-loss and one fumble recovery through five games played.

Though the defense has had its share of struggles to start the year, Agu has remained a bright spot for the unit. The Olive Green and Sky Blue faces a challenging road ahead, with another pair of non-conference tests before the program heads into league play. Agu is a veteran player for the program, and he will look to lead both on and off the field over the coming months, no matter what they might bring.

The Comeback Player of the Year Award recognizes a student-athlete who has returned to the gridiron after facing an injury, illness or other difficult circumstance. Three players will be honored as recipients of the award at the VRBO Fiesta Bowl on December 30th.

Up next, Tulane will face a tough Power Four opponent as it hits the road to take on the Kansas State Wildcats. The two teams have not met since 2024, with Kansas State ultimately claiming the nail-biting 34-27 win. The Green Wave won the two other matchups between the programs, which took place in 2022 and 1988.

Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on Saturday, September 19th, and the game will air on ESPN2.
