Colin Tuft will have the chance to show off his skills as he joins the Baltimore Orioles in the MLB's preseason showcase event.

The Tulane Green Wave has seen quite a few storied players come through its baseball program in its prolific history.

Now, one more former Sluggerbird has the chance to join that list, as he has a big opportunity to show off his skills on a major stage.

Former Tulane catcher Colin Tuft has been named to the MLB Spring Breakout roster for the Baltimore Orioles. The exhibition-style event is in its third season and recognizes some of the league's rising stars, as franchises select their top minor league players to compete across the four-day tournament. It's a huge honor for Tuft, who is looking to continue to rise in the ranks across the league.

The Vienna, Virginia, native was a major offensive contributor for the Green Wave during his lone 2024 season with the program. Tuft batted .279 on the season with 62 hits, 41 RBI, 67 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples and 12 home runs. The catcher was equally effective both at the dish and along the base paths, with 44 walks and 13 stolen bases. Defensively, Tuft posted a .983 fielding percentage with nine errors on the season.

Prior to his time in Uptown, Tuft played both catcher and outfielder for the Virginia Cavaliers, reaching the College World Series once in his time with the program.

Tuft was selected by the Orioles with the 249th pick in the eighth round of the 2024 MLB Draft. Since then, he's spend time across multiple teams: he was a member of the Delmarva Shorebirds of the Carolina League following his selection in the draft. Tuft spent his 2025 season across three teams -- first playing 17 games with the Aberdeen IronBirds in the South Atlantic League, then returning to Delmarva for 56 games, and finally joining the FCL Orioles for four final games.

During his 2025 campaign, Tuft posted a .215 batting average with 49 hits, 32 runs scored and 20 RBI. He also had 26 stolen bases on 34 attempts and drew 50 walks. Though his time across each team was relatively short, he continued to capture attention within the Orioles organization.

Tuft will have a big opportunity to showcase his talent in the Spring Breakout, as Baltimore is set to take on the Boston Red Sox on Friday at 5:05 p.m. The game will be accessible to fans nationwide, with streaming available on MASN, MLB.com and the MLB app.
