The Tulane Green Wave baseball team is off to a hot start in their 2026 campaign, completing a three-game sweep of Harvard on Sunday with an 11-1 seven inning run-shortened victory at home at Turchin Stadium. The Green Wave totaled 11 runs on seven hits while registering 12 walks, and 4 hit-by-pitches. Tulane is now 5-2 with wins in both their series so far against the Crimson and Loyola Marymount Lions. But Sunday capped off their first sweep of the year, largely led by a standout performance by pitcher Jack Frankel.
The sophomore righty (1-0) was in control through seven innings, throwing the team’s first complete game since April 25, 2025. His seven innings were also the most for a Tulane pitcher since Michael Lombardi against Florida Atlantic on May 20 of that year. Frankel only surrendered one run on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts. He leads the team with 11 innings pitched and is 1-0 on the year with a 1.64 ERA. Frankel has also limited opponents to hitting .231 against him in his first two starts. His performance in the sweep over Harvard earned him a spot on the American Conference’s Weekly Honor Roll, alongside sophomore outfielder Tanner Chun.
On Sunday, Chun was walked three times, scored three runs, and stole a pair of bases. He sparked the Wave offense slashing .556/.750/.778 through the four games played – which includes the loss to UCLA – with six runs, four RBI, two doubles, two extra base hits and an impressive six stolen bases. Chun leads the team with a .368 batting average and in stolen bases, all of which came last week. He’s also tied for the lead with four doubles. It marks the first weekly conference recognition for both Chun and Frankel in their Tulane careers, and the first for the program this year. The program has been recognized 12 times by the conference the last two seasons.
Chun’s overall body of work throughout the week earned him the honors, but the leader on offense for the Wave on Sunday was Kaikea Harrison, who had a career-high four RBIs. The Green Wave’s win was arguably decided in the third inning when they exploded with five runs. Chun had a two-out walk, stole second, was sent to third on a catcher’s throwing error, and scored off a wild pitch. He was followed by Harrison, who drove in two of his four runs with a single up the middle. Tye Wood, who totaled a pair of hits, two RBIs, and a run scored, hit a double to drive in those two runs to put Tulane up 7-1.
If not the third inning, then the four runs scored in the fourth were the proverbial nail in the coffin, with a wild pitch scoring Nolan Nawrocki, RBI singles from Trent Liolios and Matthias Haas, and an RBI ground out from A.J. Groeneveld sealed the day, putting the Wave up 11-1.
They’ll now look to continue their momentum with a pair of midweek road games this week against UNO on Feb. 24 and South Alabama on Feb. 25. They’ll return home for a three-game series against Eastern Kentucky from Feb. 27 to Mar. 1.
