The transfer portal in college football won’t officially open until Jan. 2, 2026, but the new rule also applies of allowing players to hit the portal five days after the new head coach hire. Either way, players begin declaring their intent now, and several Tulane Green Wave players have done so following their elimination from the College Football Playoff.
While a lot hoped for continuity under new head coach Will Hall, it’s near impossible to keep a team together for more than one season. Former coach Jon Sumrall had five returning starters last season despite sticking around. Most of the players departing are ones that Tulane picked up in the portal last season, showing that the revolving door can go both ways, should the Green Wave continue to capitalize on their success and recoup through the portal.
Here's a running list of Tulane players in the portal, which will be updated as players continue to enter.
RB Javin Gordon
Gordon really established himself as a true freshman and carried the early load of the team’s rushing attack. He had 128 carries for 516 yards and five touchdowns. However, he took a backseat towards the end of the season once Jamauri McClure took over the starting job. The Green Wave will hope to keep McClure as Gordon moves on with three years of eligibility.
OL Landry Cannon
Cannon redshirted in 2023 and appeared in seven games in 2024 but didn’t garner much time and is likely looking for an opportunity to get more game reps elsewhere.
LG Shadre Hurst: Houston Cougars
This is a tough one for Tulane on the offensive line. Hurst has 36 career starts and was known for his versatility with the ability to slot in at left tackle, but shining in his spot at left guard for the last several seasons. Hurst is a two-time All-American and has earned two-time First-Team All-AAC honors.
QB Donovan Leary
Leary transferred over from Illinois and was part of the quarterback competition that eventually produced Jake Retzlaff.
OL Darion Reed
Reed actually saw some playing time early in the year as part of a three-man rotation on the offensive line. He would slot in at right tackle and slide Reese Baker to right guard. However, the team settled in with Jordan Hall at guard and Baker at tackle for the rest of the season.
TE Anthony Miller
Miller enters the portal with two years of eligibility left. Miller was primarily a blocker in Tulane's scheme. Miller had five catches for 60 yards and one touchdown.
WR Shazz Preston
This one is a big loss for the Wave. Preston will enter as a grad transfer with one year of eligibility after transferring to Tulane from Alabama. He was hurt most of the 2024 season. Preston had 43 catches for 723 yards and four touchdowns in 2025.
TE Justyn Reid
Reid transferred over to Tulane this last offseason. He caught 17 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns, including the team's only one in the College Football Playoff in their loss to Ole Miss.
RB Zuberi Mobley
Mobley came over with teammate Hayes from FAU, and fit into a running back room that had a lot of talent but became crowded when Jamauri McClure burst out. Mobley had 39 carries for 184 yards and two touchdowns.
WR Omari Hayes: Iowa State
Hayes also transferred in from the FAU Owls, and had a stronger showing earlier in the year for Tulane. He had 39 catches for 515 yards.
DT Santana Hopper
Hopper declared his intent to enter the portal before the CFP game. Hopper recorded 16 solo tackles, 30 total, 9.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, four QB hits, and a fumble recovery in 13 games played for Tulane after transferring from Appalachian State.
NT Tre’Von Mcalpine
McAlpine began his career at Texas Tech and played in 11 games with two starts in 2024 before transferring to the Green Wave in the spring. He slotted in at starting nose tackle and posted 3 tackles, one sack, two tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery.
BAN Harvey Dyson
Dyson was the team’s starter at Bandit alongside Mo Westmoreland, and he also transferred from the Red Raiders alongside his teammate, McAlpine. Dyson really came on strong at the end of the season for Tulane. He finished the season with 36 tackles, 8 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a pass deflection.
DE Jordan Norman
Norman came over from South Alabama, where he appeared in all 13 games for the Jaguars in 2024, and also transferred in the spring. Norman backed up Kam Hamilton at defensive end. Norman had 28 tackles and six sacks – four of which game in a three game stretch beginning at Memphis.
DB Jahiem "Joker" Johnson
Johnson became a starting cornerback this season for the Green Wave and recorded 32 solo tackles, four interceptions, 15 forced incompletions, and one forced fumble. He'll enter the portal with two years of eligibility. That's a disappointing one after developing him into a starter.
DB Jayden Lewis
Lewis was a huge four-star recruit grab for Tulane after initially committing to Auburn. However, he didn't see the field much this year, and has eight career tackles in six games.
DB Javion White: Houston Cougars
This is a bigger loss in the Green Wave secondary, as he took over for NFL rookie Caleb Ransaw at the spear or slot role. White had 50 tackles, six pass deflections, and three interceptions while earning All-American honors.
LB Dallas Winner-Johnson
The 6-foot-5, 230 pound linebacker transferred in from Missouri State, and was mostly used in pass sets against third and long, but is a developmental piece lost.
DT Eliyt Nairne
Nairne transferred in from Liberty, and was a backup defensive tackle who appeared in all 14 games. Nairne had seven solo tackles, 13 total, one tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery in the College Football Playoff.
K Patrick Durkin: Florida Gators
This is a massive loss of the American Conference Special Teams Player of the Year. Durkin went 25-for-28 on field goal attempts, 7-for-9 from 40+, and was 41-42 on extra points. He had four kicks go for 50 or more yards with a 52-yard career long. He also had 69 touchbacks on 80 kickoffs.
P Alec Clark: Florida Gators
Clark is another big loss as the duo follows their former special teams coordinator to Florida. Clark transferred in last season and had 48 punts, averaging 46.5 per attempt, with a career-high 70-yard punt in the season opener.
