Jason Wachs was recognized for his achievements over a crucial stretch including two game winners for Tulane baseball.
After leading his team to a strong series victory over the South Florida Bulls, one Tulane Green Wave baseball standout is receiving some well-deserved attention.
Jason Wachs was named the American Conference Player of the Week, according to a league press release on Wednesday. This marks the third time this season that Wachs has been recognized by the league: he garnered Weekly Honor Roll accolades on March 23rd and April 13th. Wachs was also recognized on the league's honor roll once during the 2025 season.
There's no doubt that Wachs is the strongest offensive player on the team, and he proved it through the team's previous four games. The sophomore hit .500 on the week, with seven total hits between the team's three-game series against the Bulls and a midweek loss to the LSU Tigers. Two of those hits would prove to be game-winners, and they couldn't have come at a more pivotal time in the season.
Wachs added two doubles, two home runs, nine RBI and had a 1.071 slugging percentage. Additionally, the native of Pembroke Pines, Florida, drew three walks and had a .634 on-base percentage.
Though the Sluggerbirds have struggled at times on offense this season, Wachs has often been there to lift them up. He boasts team-highs in nearly every category, most notably leading the batting order with a .337 batting average, 64 hits, 52 RBI, 21 doubles and eight home runs. Additionally, he's posted a fielding percentage of .959 as an outfielder.
This marks the ninth time this season that Tulane has been recognized by the American Conference. Tanner Chun and Jack Frankel were both named to the Weekly Honor Roll on February 23rd, while Trey Cehajic was named the league's Pitcher of the Week on March 2nd. Jude Abbadessa joined Wachs on the March 23rd honor roll. Jake Toporek was named to the honor roll on April 6th, and Wachs and Cehajic were both recognized on April 13th.
Wachs will look to lead his team to victory in a critical series against the Rice Owls to end the regular season. The Green Wave is currently on the outside looking in when it comes to earning a spot in the American Conference Tournament, but there's still a chance that the program can make it to the postseason with a victorious weekend and a bit of help from some other teams.
The Sluggerbirds will hit the road to face the Owls on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. CT. The two teams will battle again on Friday at the same time before wrapping up the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m.
