The Green Wave rallied out of the halftime locker room to pick up the nine-point victory.

The Tulane Green Wave had some high expectations placed on it heading into the 2025-2026 season, and the team has gotten things started on the right foot in the American Conference with a big victory on Wednesday.

The Green Wave powered through adversity for a gutsy 79-70 win over the East Carolina Pirates to start conference play with a perfect 1-0 mark while improving its overall record to 10-4.

However, the contest was far from easy for the visiting squad. Tulane struggled in the first half and slipped behind the Pirates by a score of 39-37 heading into the locker room at halftime. Down but far from out, the team entered the second half with a new energy, making all the big plays when necessary and fending off any East Carolina comeback attempts to ultimately secure the victory.

Rowan Brumbaugh and Asher Woods -- two players who received noteworthy preseason honors -- led the way for the Green Wave. Both tied for a team-high 19 points, while combining for 12 rebounds and eight assists.

Two other Tulane standouts scored in double figures en route to the victory. Scotty Middleton added 16 points to go along with six rebounds and one assist, while fellow forward Tyler Ringgold added 16 points of his own, as well as five rebounds and three assists. Curtis Williams had four points, JoJo Moore netted three and Percy Daniels added two to round out the scoring for the Green Wave.

As a team, Tulane was incredibly impressive from beyond the arch, going 11-for-23 from three -- that's roughly 47.8-percent. It also out-rebounded the home team 34 to 29 and had six total blocks.

Ultimately, the biggest struggle for the Green Wave came from the charity stripe. The team couldn't consistently make free throws when it mattered most, hitting just 18-of-28 shots from the line. Luckily for Tulane, that didn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things -- East Carolina made just 12 of its 19 free throw attempts.

Now, the program will look to build off of the solid second half showing as it continues further into American Conference play. The Green Wave has its conference home-opener on Sunday, as it will take on the Florida Atlantic Owls. From there, the team has a bit of a break before hitting the road to take on the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday, January 10th, and entering more consistent American play.
