It will be the first look at the continuation of a championship standard that has been set by Tulane football after the last several seasons, going from Bowl games being considered a season victory to making the program’s first ever appearance in the College Football Playoff in just a four-year span. In that time, the Green Wave are 43-13 and have reached four consecutive American Conference championship games with two titles.
Looking for that 44th win will be the 43rd coach in program history in Hall. When Hall was last with the program, those bowl appearances were considered a successful season, and a recruiting pitch used for players during that time, including the best signal caller in school history, quarterback Michael Pratt.
The program has several key returning players, multiple of whom earned All-Conference selections: safety Jack Tchienchou (1st team), return specialist/spear TJ Smith (3rd team), and long snapper Jason Arredondo (3rd team).
But it will also have several newcomers to watch during spring camp, and also a third consecutive quarterback competition – though it will be the first under Hall’s leadership. The competitors headlining the race are returning quarterback Kadin Semonza and transfer Zeon Chriss from the Houston Cougars, with many of the younger players also having a shot at the role who are in the room from last season.
It’ll also be a good glimpse at the new coaching staff, though the Gauntlet offered a solid first impression. Many of them remain the same, but in either elevated roles or with new coordinators such as Russ Callaway handling the offense, all in all making for an exciting spring camp to watch.
